What Video Game was this?

I am trying despertly to remember a Video game from my past. I think it was an SNES game, but it might have been SEGA.

It was a multi story game where pick one of several Generals. Thers like a Mage one, a Beast one, a Priest one, etc. You control many other Generals in a Fantasy D&D type setting.

There where many generic Generals but also special one of a kind ones, there was a Magician, and the most powerful was a Dragon who controlled Dragon troops.

The Battles took place on a 2d side scrooling view where you, 100 odd troops faced off against the enemy General in similar circumstances.

If any of this sounds fermilar let me know!

Hmmmm.

After Googeling Gemfire it is not what I had in mine. The game I'm thinking of has a more obvious Anime apperance too it and looks like it was done by the guys who did the "Shinning Forces" games

There's only one N in shining. :P

For the record, Shining Force appears to have been developed by Sonic Team. That doesn't really narrow it down...

Yeah, you'd have a better chance getting hit by a meteorite. :P

Finding Saturn emulators and ROMs, you'd have more success tracking down a Saturn and copy of the game.

I went to torrentspy and typed in Dragon Force, and found it.

Mandatory Disclaimer: Don't follow my instructions and download the ROM.

I still have that game (and the Saturn to play it). I loved ripping up entire formations with your generals attacks.

A few tips:

One of the Castles(Bloodly, I think) Consistently gives up Dragon Crests(Which let your generals command Dragons) when searched.

Archers are useless against anything but Harpies. Harpies are good against anything but Dragons and Missile Troops.

Always pair Mage troops with generals who have lengthy special attacks. They keep firing though the whole thing.

Never use Breach Formation against anyone with Sonic Blast.

Thief generals are all but useless against anyone but Mage, Priest, and Spirit Walker generals.

Damn, but this game needs a remake.

Tracking down the disc image and emulator can be done if one chooses to do so. However, the Saturn's unusual architecture means current emulators haven't reached the same level of precision as those of older or better-documented consoles, so even if you find the neccesary software it's unlikely to get the game to work and even if you do, it will be at a significantly lower quality then if you actually get a real Saturn.

I suggest you hit eBay or a more traditional second-hand shop to find the actual console. It shouldn't be too pricey, although the game itself may cost a little more. How rare is it?

Generation of Chaos on psp is often compared to Dragon Force due similarities in its battle flow and gameplay. I just hear it's the closest thing to it. I've never played Dragon Force, so I don't know how similar.

I will step on anyone who goes into detail on where or how to get ROMs. I may also have some shoe left for people who derail the thread nitpicking said policy. End of line.
