Windows Media Edition Problem

I have a Dell E1705 with WME (as previously implied). I didn't like the version of PowerDVD that came up with Media Center because it is so primitive that it doesn't have a time display, so I downgraded from whatever it was to PowerDVD 5. Now when I put in a DVD, Media Center still automatically loads but now can't find the video decoder, which I figured was the old version. This isn't a problem for watching movies, as I have the older PowerDVD for that. However, I intend to buy
this Hauppauge WinTV DVR, which works with WME. I am assuming that without the "video decoder," I will now be unable to watch the tv shows I record along with any DVDs. Is this true? If so, how can I fix it?

Does it work if you watch the dvd in another program besides WME?

As I said, I can watch DVDs in PowerDVD 5.

Just an experimental bump to see if anyone, anyone at all, knows an answer to this.

The video decoder in this case is the MPEG2 decoder (and sundry other things like decryption) for DVD playback. I don't think it'll affect the DVR.

I was kind of annoyed with the Power DVD that was automatically set up with XP Media Player as well. Not only can't you control it as well, like using it to watch consecutive video clips without clicking on them individually, it also doesn't have the screen capture function.
