A friend of mine has recently got broadband & I wan to send him some of the strange, crazy & freakish stuff on my hard drive. What would be the best way. Bearing in mind computer ilteracy.

Oh and none of its strictly illegal, its just the general stuff you acrue by spending 10 hours a day online.

ZIP file. .rar files. Basically most sorts of compressed file format aren't too bad as long as the other person knows how to open them. You can also try sending directly, but that takes about forever. Or you could just buy a cheap-ass flash drive, put everything on it, and mail it to him :P

Most IM clients support simple file transfer that works under most circumstances, try that.

Can be absolute killer depending on upload rates, though. I'd recommend filetransfer via IM only for anything under ten meg max; more than that, and it can be pretty awful. Yousendit works okay for larger files, though it sounds like Doc here has slow upload rates...

BT? µTorrent has a trackerless function - it's not pretty, but it should work.

Could always set up a quick apache server, give your friend your IP addr, dump files into the apache web folder.

Through IRC?

Nice small program that I used to transfer stuff from school SSFT

But if you have bad upload bandwidth (or your friend has slow connection downwards), best thing is to burn dvd+/-rw instead of trying to send large amounts.
