Games You 'Missed'

I recently tracked down a few older games (about 2002, I think) that I'd never even heard of until a week ago. Insult to injury, they're really good and they're not FPSs or RTSs. So now I'm thinking maybe I missed heaps of games that slipped by with little to no marketing or poor boxart.
For instance, Europa:1400:the guild:gold. It's neat and all, but if I'd seen it in the stores I would've rolled my eyes at the cover art and thought 'ugh another lameass Merchant Prince knockoff'. Hell, I probably DID think that, because it was at least released by a decent label.
Unlike King of Dragon Pass, which is horribly budget. I don't think there is anything animated in the whole game. However, it's Conan meets Romance of the Three Kingdoms, and that's just an excellent combination.
Does anyone else have little-known games they didn't end up playing until years after they came out?

It doesnt usually happen to me, since the games Im interested in are the most hyped tactical shooters, fpp's, simulators and such.
What happened to me on some occasions though, is that I could anticipate some game, then forget about it and remember 2-3 years later. This has happened with No One Lives Forever 2 (which turned out to be crap) and Simcity 4.

Lots of wargames like the combat mission series and hearts of iron. I also never played the original starcraft until about 2 years after its release.

Disgaea. I didn't know about it when it first came out, and now you can't find it for less than $50.

We've picked up a lot of PlayStation games pretty late, mostly RPGs like Final Fantasy VII-IX, Xenogears, Lunar 2 (the Eternal Blue Complete box) and such.
Uts didn't get the Fallout games until some years after they came out, mostly because he wasn't really sure of what kind of game it it was at release.
Still have to get a copy of Ico...

Planescape Torment - luckily a tri-pack containing this game, fallout and Baldur's Gate 1 was released a few years ago, otherwise I'd never have played it. I gave the other games to friends.

I got Baldur's Gate II and the Throne of Bhaal expansion quite a while after they came-out. I got Crimson Skies so late that it was bargain bin, just the CD case for $10.
Fallout I missed out on, much to my regret. Fallout 1 & 2 in a bundled package for just $10. I didn't pick it up. For some reason I thought it was a third-person action/adventure similar to Diablo. I was wrong, and I didn't get to play what I hear to be a really good RPG.

Shogun Total War comes to mind; beyond that there's just too many to list.

I didn't get my copy of Freespace 2 until 2004.
I just ordered a copy of starlancer from amazon.com

Damn that was a good game.

It's still pretty damn easy to get ahold of, too.
If you see it in the stores for a platform you own, buy it, and go home and beat it. This goes for everyone.

Almost everything since 2001, and absolutely everything that had P3 or higher in the minimum requirements plus the Baldur's Gate type games. I do have BG and the Icewind Dale games around, but I'm going to take a look at them once I get the new comp.

Treadmarks. A little arcadey tank shooting/racing game. Snagged it on a budget release after hearing someone mention it on a forum.. took a bit of finding but it turned out to be damn fun. Especially with the deformable terrain and high powered weapons.
"YOU GOT THE NUKE!" and three seconds later you get a nice big hole in the ground down to the water table.

I missed out on TA when it came out. I remember Christmas when I was 10: StarCraft or TA+CC. I went with the Hydralisk. Of course, by the time I started playing TA, UH was out, so you could say I came in just in time.

Snowboard Kids 2, and I still haven't played it because they never released it here
I sort of missed out on Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. I only played it for a little bit when my brother borrowed it from one of his friends, but he returned before I could get anywhere. Years later I got to play through the whole thing.

Plus it's by Atlus. Which means that the game will be impossible to find anyway.

Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn and its essential sequel Throne of Bhaal come to my mind first. I didn't get around playing them until last year when a friend of mine loaned his copies. Got myself totally lost in the world of Faerun for several weeks, despite the fact that I didn't like the first Baldur's Gate (still don't) or the much more combat-oriented Icewind Dales. It was the story and characters which held my interest.
Planescape Torment also gets another vote from me. Haven't played it much yet, but the game looks very promising so far.

I think I've missed just about everything save for Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and Morrowind for the X-Box, though now that I've got some disposable income, that's about to change. No under-the-radar titles, unfortunetily (well, good ones, anyway, but those are my brother's).
For late-to-the-party games, though, I only got the Warlords mod for Homeworld 2 working about three days ago. The last three nights have been awesome, the repeated murdering of my GPU aside.

I miss nothing. I see all.
(well, unless it's a PC exclusive, but of them the only thing I can seriously say I've "missed" is the Total War games after Shogun, because every other PC game that isn't a pure RTS is duplicated elsewhere, and I haven't missed any RTSs because they haven't surpassed Starcraft in owt but graphics yet.)

I didn't get into the Kirby and Castlevania series until I found Kirby's Adventure and Symphony of the Night a couple years ago. That's about all I can think of, but since those two games are two of my favorites, they stand out.

I'm sorry, what?

he's letting us know that he's not worth a damn in any "is this PC game good" discussion.
Starcraft is not the most uber RTS of all time, and the only rival to PC-RPGs was KOTOR, which was for both console and PC. FPS games on the PC are far more numerous, varied, and frankly, better in every way to console FPS games. I've yet to find a console game that is even remotely like SEIV or GalCiv2. Freespace, I-War, and X-Wing have no real duplication on the console either (no, Rogue Squadron does not count).
And seriously, nothing has surpassed Starcraft except in graphics? I have to question his sanity at this point. Ground Control, Homeworld, and, speculatively, Supreme Commander?
Something is cracked in this boy's poor head it has.

Hell, the day someone holds Starcraft as the supreme RTS is the day he needs to get his head checked.
