Advice on getting Teamspeak

My guild on World of Warcraft is looking towards getting a relaible team speak going for raids and PVP. Can anyone recommend a good client and how to go about setting one up? One guy on the guild suggested using Skype as it doesn't use too much bandwidth. Any help would be much appreciated.

Well, my guild used ventrilo v2.1.3 that worked very well, just get someone the set up a server (can't help you there, sorry).

Some friends and I have been using TS for well over a year, and we have not had a problem. If you have a list of question, PM me and I can pass them on if you want.

From what I understand, the older version of Ventrilio mentioned is better, although Teamspeak has a feature to record the conversation if you want to do that. If you have no use for that, find that version of Ventrilio (not the newer version, which sucks)

Seconded. My group used the old Ventrilo for quite a while, though nowdays we tend toward Teamspeak. For the primary feature, I never noticed much of a difference. I still have the old Ventrilo client and server files somewhere.

Another vote for Ventrilo, the only problem is finding a person with enough upload to host the server by himself, though I don't know much about Irelands broadband situation.

I'd vote for Vent, and definitly the older version. Teamspeak, I've had some weird problem with TS because of non existant help when your server goes crappy.

I've had few problems with either TS or Vent. Though from my understanding, TS can offer higher sound quality relative to bandwidth as compared to Vent.

Yet another vote for Ventrilo, I've always felt that the sound quality is better with Ventrilo, but I understand this varies wildly depending on the codec the server uses

Yeah, it's all based on codec...advantage of TS is that it dials down far enough to be used over dialup, whereas Vent chokes. I'm curious though...what's the beef with the newer versions of Vent?

I prefer TS over vent but both seem alright
