Has anyone played this, in either it's Japanese or North American formats? My sister got it on pre-order apparently and I've been playing it a bit. It's a fun PS2-style shooter and I'm enjoying the storyline thus far. The music is also a nice plus, and thus far my favorite is when you're in Edge (I'm only to the second part of Chapter 4 thus far).

I wasn't expecting to play as Cait Sith, and the one mission I'm on with him makes him kinda damn useless (then again, I never used him much in the game, either :D ). I'm not sure how to beat this "sneak around Reactor 0" mission yet, but I'm sure I'll figure it out. Sure won't be by fighting though.

Well, a shooter with plenty of RPG elements.

Really? I heard it was crap. And, to be honest, I didn't have much faith in SE to pull off a decent shooter (I don't even like shooters anyway). I still probably won't get it, but I know a guy who might if it turns out to be decent.

The reviews I've read were less than flattering. I don't understand why they need to continually fuck with FF7 here. Movies and spin-off games. Why? The original was pretty OK so why not leave it at that.

The obvious answer is $$$, I know. I have difficulty wrapping my mind around it nonetheless.

It makes about as much sense as Star Wars relentlessly focusing on the Skywalker/Solo Dynasty; ie, only from a business perspective.
