What is a good MP3 maker?

I don't know if that is the correct term.

I'm copying CDs to my computer and then onto a SD card. Some of the MP3s aren't transfering to the card from the computer. I'm using the Quinntesential encoder that comes with the player. Is there a better free program I could use?

I use audiograbber with the LAME mp3 codecs plugin.

LAME for the codec, CDex or EAC for the front-end.

Seconded. EAC is very easy to use and all the author wants for his troubles is an (optional) nice postcard.

I was using LAME/EAC but I had a few scratched discs that it was going to pull off a perfect copy or else, for those I just downloaded the songs or used something like WMP/iTunes.

I use grip with lame and cdparanoia, so it will keep trying and retrying a scratched disc until it can get a clean read (read speed sometimes drops down to 0.1x even on my blazing fast serial ATA Plextor because of this re-reading).
