Note: I'm not using it for gaming, or anything that takes up too much of anything. This is just for generic college student use.

No, that looks okay. I bought a similar laptop about a year ago (though with a Turion instead of a Sempron) and it's served me well since then. Doesn't say much about the battery life, but Semprons aren't power gobblers, so I'd imagine it's pretty decent (for reference, my laptop usually gets about 3 hours on a full charge).

Not bad at all, I mean I can see some places where abit of extra money might have improved alot, but this seems like a good laptop for collage work.

*Remembers his laptop specs and checks Tinkerbell's laptop and price* I think you did good for six hundred bucks...

Man, I overpaid.

For $600 you did as well as could be expected. I would have much prefered 1GB RAM, or at least an empty expansion slot, but that's a reasonable system for a good price.

For $600, that's a fine machine, and Acer is a brand with a reasonable reputation in terms of design and quality. They're not ThinkPads, but certainly better than the equivalent Dell or Compaq you'd get for that price.

The worst value laptops on the market seem to be those $500 Compaqs you can get at an Office Depot-type store with a mere 256 MB of ram. Heck, my 2000-vintage Dell 8100 has more ram than that (a then-whopping 378 MB with a then-whopping Pentium 4 1.4 ghz).

Funny enough, a couple of weeks ago, my uncle bought a laptop, and asked me to set up for him; and it was just one of these, an Acer AS3004. I found to be a good laptop indeed, and for a great price. He is quite satisfied with it.
