Are there any 'make Thief not 90s' projects?

I like Thief, and since I'm struck the the urge to shoot things and I can't find FEAR I'm going to play Thief. But, seriously, it's fucking old and doesn't really like working with XP. Are there any texture replacement or loader/launchers available? It's a shame LGS didn't open-source all their stuff before they disbanded: Thief with an updated engine and polished textures would be ... like... good.

Deadly Shadows is pretty good, and there's a dev team supported PC mod that's trying to undo the split maps thing and make the levels whole, without loadzones.

Really?
Anyway, Deadly Shadows wasn't dark enough for me. I'm playing through Thief 2 again, and when there's no light it's pitch fucking black, reducing you to stumbling around by feel. There's nowhere that dark in DS, at least not the first half. And DS was fucking *easy*.
But holy crap, level geometry was pretty simple in 1997 or whenever.

I also hated how they went from brilliant "sneak-a-lots" to "what the hell - why am I being attacked by magic flinging cat-people?".
If you really want nasty nasty sneak-about fun, get Splinter Cell Chaos Theory. Its in the Ubisoft best sellers range now for 20 bucks. As is Deadly Shadows for that matter.

Stark, take a look
here. That site is an awesome resource for anything Thief related and might have what you're looking for.

If you like thief, you might want to check out Shadows of the Metal Age, the Thief 2 Unofficial Expansion. It's seriously good, and pretty recent. Released either early this year or late last year, can't remember which. Doesn't do all that much with the graphics, but I've never minded Thief's graphics.

There's also a mod for Doom 3... the intriguing
Dark Mod.
