But I can't fucking get the hang of it! I'd like to know how the hell to get into a chat, AND I'd like to know how to move contacts to their proper groups and have them stay put after a reconnect. Help please!
I'd also like my text font to be the nice 12pt Frutiger Sans in FF0099 like I had in Trillian, too.

Okay, trying that. I already know how to install plugins; I have AimOSCAR and the Auto Database Backup plugin.
Oh, and the 'drifting contacts' problem goes away after restarting Miranda when I installed AutoDB...
EDIT: Wasn't there a post by Bounty linking to Miranda-IM's FAQs here or am I hallucinating again?

Well the 'drifting contacts' problem resurfaced and was traced to having both AIM and AIM OSCAR connections active. Disabling regular AIM stopped this.
I still have no idea how the hell to connect to an AIM chat! Help!

Sorry, I forgot to mention that I installed the Updater plugin as well.

I'm using it as a ICQ client and had no issues yet (admitedly, i only installed it recently). Especialy nothing like contacts getting screwed up. What protocol(s) are you using?
Colors should be changable in the Events->Messaging Log part of options (yeah, the log part is kinda counterintuitive).
Sorry I can't be more helpful.

I figured all that out, but I still can't get into an AIM chat.

Oh, for the love of christ, just get a new router. They're like $20 bucks.

I've never had any significant problem with an IM client - even Fire, the MacOS one. Maybe you've just jinxed it?

I haven't had any issues with AIM, I know the oscar protcol doesn't allow AIM chats unless someone sends you an invite. I know the other AIM plugins have the option to enter chats/create rooms. I found an older aim plugin I had from an older version of miranda from my jump drive, use
it at your own risk... It has been several months since I used this version plugin.

I think Einy is just jinxed. Both trillion and Miranda not working?

I went back to Trillian because Miranda completely failed to resolve my issue. There remains the possibility my router's going titsup. The periods it works before breaking is growing shorter and shorter as well.

Isn't he getting some crazy contacts rearranging? The contacts are read from central servers, so how could that be changing unless the client was reading them wrong or the information was corrupted somehow?

Update your Router's firmware.

I'm very seriously considering doing that. It's a Linksys BEFSR41 v.4 four-barrel jobber.

I have that one, mine works fine... is there a newer firmware past the 2005 version?

No, version 4 is the highest.
Here are two router's for
$20 bucks. Here's a Wireless 4 port router for
$25.
Buy one of those, or live with it.

Found the firmware updates/utils/manuals/etc, remembered the password, now only to get my damn roomies to go to bed before 0500 to actually upgrade without everyone freaking and running around like decapitated chickens while I apply the Voodoo Medicine...
