Company of Heroes

Anyone gotten Company of Heroes by chance? Not to be too much of a whore, but the game is fantastic. Its got some sillyness like the occasional v1 rocket strike, but its mostly just a really good RTS. Extremely fancy graphics, unit AI thats pretty damn good and its pretty well balanced too.
Hot, no? This is a picture of the Axis about to win
WIN!

I've been playing the beta for several weeks now and plan on picking up the full game soon. Balance is indeed, for the most part, pretty good, although there a few niggles here and there.
Axis seems disproportionately popular in multiplayer at the moment. They do seem a bit easier to play, IMO.

Thats because StuGs and FJ win.
I don't really know, I'm just guessing. I haven't played it yet.

I've found that Stugs are awfully poor at hitting, AT guns make very short work of them. Now I hear lots of complaints about Tigers, but they really do cost a lot, and are still fairly easy to take down if you're somewhat prepared.

There are no Fallschirmjaeger, sadly. There are Sturmtruppen, fortunately, which I am quite fond of. Most people don't use them, however, preferring to tech up to StuGs and bring in Tigers ASAP. But then I think those people are Starcraft lamers, so eh.
StuGs are rather good though. They're very cost-effective, and with veterancy upgrades get an MG42 gunner (silly, I don't know why they couldn't be arsed to put in MG34s) which obviously tears through infantry. AT guns are indeed pretty effective against them, but most people are too stupid to figure out how to use anti-tank guns against tanks.
And Tigers are indeed a little overrated, though extremely brutal if properly used and supported. A lot of people really don't understand the concept of combined arms (*cough* Starcraft lamers) and prefer to mass one or two units together.
EDIT: Is that a stock screenshot? Or one of the release version game? If the latter, hooray, they fixed Grenadier uniforms to be less ridiculous.

How does it look on a lower-end system? Say an, uh, 1.67 GHz Merom with an ATI x1400 mobility?

I tried downloading it twice, both times it was either corrupted, to just failed to install.
I might get it to fill that gap before Dark Crusade appears though

Both those elements are dynamic, and not dependent on huge filesizes surely?
Anyway, this looks neat, if only for it's apparent lack of an obtrusive UI. I know it's 'balanced' but is it RTS-level, or quasi-realistic, or brain-meltingly realistic? And by AI are you referring to the enemy AI (like in an RTS) or your own guy's independent AI?

I've been regularly playing the multiplayer beta in what free time I have. It's very addictive. The game is truely what Dawn of War should have been. It's got great atmosphere, feel like war, rather than "Starcraft gosu lol".
Your main base is fairly typical RTS, about 5 buildings tops. However, outside of this it's quasi-realistic. So much fun to be had....setting up barbed wire, tank traps, machinegun nests, covering fields of fire. It's got a real dynamic flow, the battle ebbs and flows. Just be sure to play it on victory points, and not annhilate. This is where the game is at it's weakest, and the balance breaks down a little.

Hehehe. A friend of a friend works for THQ, looks like I might be able to get a copy for a low low price
I loved the demo, and look forward to seeing how much of Dark Crudade incorperates this, and how moch CoH foreshadows DoW2

The second, your own men are very smart about cover, getting the fuck out of the way when bombs are sent towards them, dodging and generally fighting in a way that seems fairly realistic. Rather than just stand there shooting rifles, they move for cover and engage their enemies in the way to best deal with them. They try and get out of the way of grenades and tank gun fields of fire. Far less static compared to say... units from Dawn of War.

I'm actually going to have to contest this. Having played beta for awhile now, I can say with some certainty that it looks pretty at first, but when you get into the meat of it, the squad AI is pretty flimsy. More often than not, my men prefer to run
out of the heavy cover (green shield) I've placed them behind to engage the enemy from the wrong side of the cover (and it is directional, even if it says they're "in" cover) or in no cover at all. They'll frequent stop-go-stop when shells and bombs go off around them despite being ordered to retreat or move
away from the kill zone, thereby getting themselves killed, and to top it all off they just like to run around like chickens with their heads cut off instead of
shooting. It is all too frequent I have to shout at my monitor, "
Fire your weapon, soldier!"
EDIT: Hey, anyone want to play a match or two?
Compstomp if you like.

At times it happens, I think because the troops are trying to move foward and engage to enemy. I haven't seen it happen much...

Damn them! No FJ? That's an unforgivable offense! We strike at Relic tomorrow. To the planes - MARCH!

I picked up the full version late Tuesday (stupid UPS plane being late). Had over 100 rounds in the beta, but only had time for a few so far in the full version (yay new maps). Gotten a fair ways in the campaign though.
Already hoping for an Eastern front expansion.

Hopefully mods will fill in the rest of war. I'd like to see some early war combat.

Kinda hard to get excited about another WWII game - anything to make this rendition of the Big War stand out? (Lack of Fallschirmjaeger is a big points loss
)

Completly destructable terrain and buildings?
