Would you like to play Global Thermonuclear War?

...Or just a game of chess?
DEFCON is available to pre-order now.
The aim of the game? Nuke your enemy into the dust & lose the least. It'd be great if a few people around here got this. The way you can backstab your team mates, looks great. I also like how you can plot & scheme before the game begins to ensure you lose the least.
It certainly seems to encompass the Shep Solution, NUKEY NUKEY!
Personally I'm looking forward to this game more than DoW: Dark Crusade, CoH, and tons of others. I was a big fan of Darwinia (I loved that it snowed in game & the little Darwinians had Santa hats at Xmas).
EDITED to look less like a frigging sales pitch.

I preordered so I could get the free physical copy. This looks like exactly the kind of game I've wanted ever since seeing WarGames.
(I don't mind tying my Valve games to Valve's STEAM but I'm still leery of ordering other games via Steam.)

I pre-ordered earlier in the week, I don't really use steam & I like to have a tangible product in front of me. Plus I get a nice satisfaction from directly supporting Introversion.

Why would I pay money for a game in which the only winning move is not to play?

You redefine what it means to win.
EDIT - Shep made that poster.

Damn, that looks like a fun game.
I should get it somehow.

I preordered over Steam for the discount. I now own every Introversion game. And hot-damn if Defcon don't look like their best one yet.

Looks fun and only $10, how could I not?

Is this similar to the original DEFCON game from the 1980's or Bravo Delta Romeo?

Introversion did it! Ah, about time they made a game out of Uplink's little hack to start a global thermonuclear war.

If there's enough of a following, I just might join in.

Can you do the depressed trajectory shot?

No, but you can ambush just off the coast with boomers... Just as good I'd assume.

I'm new to this whole 'paying for things I download from the internet' thing so let me get this straight:
If I pre-order, all I pay is the $17.50 and I will get a download+key emailed to me at launch? or is it 17.50 in addition to the cost of the game? and how will this price differ from downloading it after release, or buying a hardcopy after relase?
other than that, this is precisely the game I've been waiting for.

AFAIK, you only pay the $17.50, you get the key and the download at launch and even a physical copy mailed at you after a few days.

So, will it be possible to get a legal copy without paying over the internet?
Because I don't have a credit card, nor a paypal account.

A debit card linked to your checking account should be just as good

Mind you, for only 10 bucks Steam won't burden you with a disk. Seems like a win-win to me.

What a terrible burden indeed.

the disk may not be, but that 7.50 is much needed for a poor college student like me. I can buy like 7 boxes of Ramen for that.
BTW: where is the option to not get the hardcopy and only pay $10
or is that going to be after release?

That options is via Steam, and is a pre-order *only* discount, it'll jump up to $15 or so when the game is released.
Just
Get Steam. I have a feeling that the boxed version requires steam anyway.

I'm doubting it requires steam, given that the have mac and linux versions planned, which don't run steam, AFAIK.
