Conquest of the New World problems

I have the deluxe version of the game and I am running into difficulties with it. I can't get it to work properly under XP. I can get into the main menu but when I try to start a game it crashes to desktop.

I've tried D-Fend\DosBox but the game then doesn't recognize my CD drive and won't start a new map without the CD. I've mounted every drive available but to no avail. How can I get it to work?

The only way I can think of is to install my old WinME. But how do I create a dual boot that won't screw up XP. Plus would I have to partition and if so will it screw up the files on the hard drive?

You could try running WinME under VMWare server (free download).

That's helped me get some old games playable.

VirtualPC 2004 might get better performance as VMWare Server lacks some acceleration features.

Ok I got VPC2K4 installed. I have it set for ME but do I need to use my ME disc to install into the Virtual PC?

Ok. I need to run Fdisk in VPC2K4 so it would run under FAT32, but it has been awhile since I've messed with Fdisk. When creating a Dos partition do I choose to "Create Primary DOS Partition" or "Create Extended DOS Partition" or "Create Logical DOS Drive(s) in the Extended DOS Partition"?

I assume the first one but when I do that it create another drive that is partition leaving C: in limbo. What gives?

EDIT: Damn it! It did it again! After creating a partition for C, I 'reboot' the VM and it acknowledges that C exists but creates a D drive! I try to access C: but it won't let me in. I go back to Fdisk but it hangs after making a selection. What went wrong?
