I have had my laptop for a year now and the CD/DVD burner has worked flawlessly until this past Saturday. I purchased a 10-pack of Sony DVD+R, 1-16x DVDs. Out of nine burning attempts, I have only had three successful burnings. My laptop was incapable of reading the failed discs. I was using Nero to burn a VIDEO_TS folder onto a DVD using Nero's DVD Video feature. I was successful twice. I also tried burning a .img file onto a DVD using Alcohol 120%. I was successful once. This is the first time that I have used these Sony discs that are capable of being written at 1-16x. I always used the Sony 10-pack DVD+R, 1-8x DVDs and I never had a problem. Is it my DVD burner?

Sounds like you may have just bought a bad batch of discs. Not all discs are made through the same manufacturing plant, even if they've got the same brand name on them and come from the same store.

Also check the manufacturers website if there is a firmware update for your drive. Mine recently had issues with some media (would burn some at only 4x, others not at all - capable of 16x DL) and a firmware update fixed it up, altough it seems my model was somewhat of a lemon since the firmware for it went from version 1.xx to 3.xx, while most others drives of the same manufacturer (NEC) only had minor .xx revisions.
