The Typing of the Dead...dead.

I've reinstalled TTOTD (UK version) on my PC (XP SP2). I *know* it worked just fine on this computer two years ago before I installed SP2, but now the game's dead - I double-click the exe, the screen goes blank for a moment then goes back to the desktop. There's nothing in Task Manager to indicate the game's running, either.
I really want to get this game to work, but Google isn't helping. Has anyone had this problem?
