Need help: watching tv with MPlayer

So I've been using MPlayer for a while now, and have recently put a tv turner card into my new computer (just got the cable strung down the hall tonight). I can watch tv with the software that I downloaded with the drivers, but MPlayer doesn't want to recognize the signal.

Some info:
windows XP pro
AMD 64 AM2
nVidia 7600 GT
ATi PCI tuner card

As I said, I can see the signal with the ATi software, but this doesn't let me record shows for when I'm out. That's what MPlayer and MEncoder are for. Does anyone know how to fix this, or know a site that goes through the steps (there's plenty of info, if I was running Linux).

Bump.

Anyone know anything? Even if it's for linux and can be applied to windows? As long as it doesn't need to be recompiled, I'm good.

Dude, RTFM. Seriously. It tells you how to tweak all the input settings right in the man page. Either get the info for the proper parameters from one of the sites you found, or use trial and error.

Jeez, how do you think I set up those DVD scripts?

Uh, there's only one setting that I have to worry about, and that's the driver setting. Unfortunately, the four drivers listed in the man page DON'T WORK! If I had a C compiler and wanted to tempt fate, then I'd do that, but I don't have a C compiler and I don't want to tempt fate.

In any case, it's a fairly mute point as the ATi drivers don't want to play nicely with the nvidia chipset and graphics card now anyways.

Your TV tuner card seriously won't let you record? What model is it?

I don't know what I was thinking, but it does let me record, it's just that mencoder would do a much better job of it.

Also, found some open source drivers for it, so I can now see video, but the cd in isn't working for the audio, so I may have to go out and buy a little 1/8th inch cable and patch it into my line in. The original ATi drivers did let me get the audio, so I know it should work, I just don't know why it isn't.

EDIT: I just didn't have the PVR capabilities
