I just bought a spool of memorex CD-R's and I've noticed that each one of them has an individual serial number. I wasn't sure if this was new or if I just never noticed it before, so I check a bunch of my other ones and none of them have a serial number.

Is this something new, industry wide, or just a memorex thing?

Even floppy disks used to have individual serial numbers. It's nothing new.
