Which gaming systems are you planning to get for Christmas and why?

Ok... despite the weirdness of the OFP(Original First Post). My family is getting a Wii. It's cheaper than the rest of the stuff coming out and it has Zelda!

If I could be bothered, a Wii. Since Europe got shafted yet again...

A PS2 (that wasn't a typo.) I'm probably going to get it before Christmas, though.

I'll probably get a Wii when the prices go down. Not gonna bother with a PS3. Maybe I'll get a PS4 if it's backwards-compatible, though. I prefer to leapfrog my way through the consoles now that backward-compatibility has become common.

I'll probably be getting a Wii, if I can spare the cash. Otherwise it'll have to wait until Spring.

Neither. If we get any of the current generation of consoles, it'll be an Xbox 360, and even that's not likely.

I'll be getting the Wii. Can't be arsed to pony up $600 for what amounts to an overpriced paperweight.

PS3's not out here 'til March.

But if it was, I'd still be getting a Wii.


Also, Elite, before you come a cropper at SDN, we like people to post words in their topics.

I'm going to try my best to find and purchase a Wii. I don't plan on getting a PS3 until there are some considerable price drops.....so that may be a long, long time.

Hell, I bought my first PS2 in 2003!

I'll be camping out in front of Best Buy from November 16th-17th for a PS3. I plan on selling it on E-bay for a profit of around $1250, and then I'll get myself a Wii.

Getting... for christmas? Isn't the average age here a bit old for that sort of thing?

I'll be buying myself a Wii, though.

This makes the choice rather obvious.

I will not even touch a PS3 until they've had a few BIG price drops or unless there is some HUUUUGE killer app for it. Assassin's Creed may have sold it for me, but thankfully now its PC and 360 also.

Neither. But I think I want a PS3 eventually. So far, I've never bought a console system until at least after a year of its release -- by then I'll know exactly what I am buying.

Probably neither. Unless someone wants to spend their money for me, in which case the PS3.

If it's my own money, I'll pick up a PS3 whenever GTA4 comes out. Because I seriously doubt my PC will handle it and it's easier to get a console than try to upgrade my desktop.

Errr, hasn't GTA4 been nabbed by the 360?

If anything, the Wii. I've got so many other games I've yet to finish for the 'cube and DS currently though (not to mention that I don't own a PS2 or even a PS1, and have a great deal of games to catch up on there), so it's not going to hurt me to hold off for a little until a price drop.

It's a simultaneous release. There's also going to be downloadable episodes, each supposedly as long as Liberty City Stories, these may well be exclusive to the 360 version.

There are also a stack more titles that don't look PS3 bound, like Kane & Lynch: Dead Men (tactical shooter from the Hitman team, core characters are an ex-merc and a psychopath who are liberated from death row), Alan Wake, (suspense/thriller/adventure from Remedy's Max Payne team, 100 square kilometre open world, modern day American Northwest. Possibly something like the bastard offspring of Oblivion and Silent Hill), Bioshock, which has a limited term exclusivity deal for PC/360, Blue Dragon, hit game of this years TGS and possibly the first game in ten years to look and feel like Chrono Trigger, Mass Effect, next Bioware RPG...

The only PS3 exclusives left are FFXIII and MGS4, and neither of them have release dates. Assassin's Creed is no longer exclusive, the extra Oblivion content will be on all platforms....

It's looking like the advantages of waiting for a PS3 are, well, not actually advantages at all.

Not according to their website. PS3 is a go.

I don't know about any X360 exclusive content or whatever, but odds are I won't care either. Mainly because I'll still be able to play my old PS2 games on it and I have zero interest in other Xbox or X360 titles, so... PS3 for me.
