I woke up this morning and she wasn't breathing...

I tried to revive her, oh GOD I tried... but there was nothing I could do...

Dr. POST says it was 'Primary Hard Disk Failure'

So I'm thinking I might just rely on my laptop until prices (RAM mostly) drop a bit. But what I was really wondering is if DX10 is going to be worth waiting for? How long a wait would that be? Also, how long before a wider selection of motherboards/chipsets for the Core 2 Duo come out?

Theres already a pretty good selection for C2D motherboards.

First DX 10 card is right around the corner, it's called the 8800 series from nVidia. ATi is coming up with their own in early January. However, these cards can be easily classified as problematic, becuase they are Fast,HOT and expensive.

If you want DX10, buy second gen, when heat production will drop.

Alternatively, buy a midrange DX9 card now(the 7600GS is looking good), and wait for DX10.

Could just get a new HDD and reinstall. Be much cheaper.

This is why you should always have an up-to-date Linux LiveCD on hand. Saved my ass when my computer wasn't able to read from its hard drive.
