IGN Wii Launch Guide - Updated Every Tuesday...

Found out about this over at Penny Arcade. As the title says, it's a launch guide for the Wii by IGN, which will be updated with further news every Tuesday until December:
http://wii.ign.com/launchguide/
Overall, it reveals a lot of little details that so far have been more or less unknown until now. One is that the Wii controllers (remote, nunchuck, and classic controller) are incompatable with GameCube games.

Wasn't that obvious?
I'm more curious if GameCube controllers can be used for Virtual Console games.

No it wasn't, not really. There was some question concerning such.
Also, it seems to have been confirmed that the remote can clip onto the bottom of the classic controller.
The info so far is rather light because the feature just went up, such as the sentiment over at PA that the stated tech specs are possibly based on a pervious inaccurate leak.

The Classic Controller page has repeated references to being used with GameCube games. Are you sure you don't just mean the Remote and Nunchuk?

It looks, however, like an actual Cube controller would be better for playing GC games. For a start the Classic controller uses a Dual Shock type layout, prioritising the D-pad for older games not the analogue stick, and it has no analogue shoulder buttons and an awkward Z button, so certain Cube games would be a pain to use it with.

True. The digital shoulder pads look to be the biggest potential problem. as the functionality will actually be different. Most of the differences seem to be simply getting used to the different control layout. (I don't have any problems with the PS2's controller for games that need to use the analog input as the primary input.) Any games that rely specifically on the GCN controller's layout could be weird to play.
Of course, I'm not planning on getting rid of my GameCube controllers anytime soon anyway.

That was the most interesting bit to me; I noticed the clip at the bottom of the Virtual Console controller at E3, and couldn't figure out what it was used for.

While viewing the Wii Remote, IGN tells us that the Nunchuk is sold separately, yet when I read what #10 is, it says that the Nunchuk ships with the Wii Remote. They need to get this straightened out.

A remote and nunchuck is packaged with the system, but additional remotes and nunchucks aren't sold together, they're seperate.

It is straightened out. They are sold seperately from each other ($40 for a remote, $20 for a nunchuck) but the system comes with both. The Wii packaging says it includes a Wii Remote and a Nunchuck.

Good luck finding a place that takes preorders.

Yup, I had to wait in line before GameStop opened on the day they were starting preorders, and we had more people than preorders before the door opened. Luckily, I got my preorder in
Although I hear rumors that Toys-R-Us may begin preorders on Sunday on opening...might be worth looking in to.

That's the plan over here, though from what I've heard it's more than just a rumour.
EDIT: Yeah, it's not a rumour; it's official.

Yo Praxis, aren't Wii games supposed to be simliar/cheaper? In AU, announced prices seem to be AU$109.95 per game, just like 360. Are we getting shafted AGAIN?
PS, that's equivalent to say US$70.

Man, it's all over in the Wii thread at PA. It's been doubly, triply, quadruply confirmed: Sunday.
Oh and by the way; Wii purchase calculator courtesy of N-Sider:

In the U.S., new Wii games are the same price as new GameCube games ($50). It's supposed to be the same price as the previous generation; at least
first party games, while third party games will choose their own prices.
Don't know about AU though

I've seen no first party game over $99.95, but a number of the second parties are at $109.95. Of course, a number of Wii games also seem to be priced at $199.95 currently, according to at least one EB Games store in the city, so take all that with a grain of salt.

I called Toys R Us earlier today and got the facts:
1. Yes, they are offering Wii pre-orders.
2. They open at 9 AM.
3. They only have 10-15 pre-order slots available.
4. People have already started lining up outside for the PS3, and fifty people have called regarding the Wii.
Uts and I will still probably show up early (~7 AM), because we plan on picking up my DS Lite anyway.

People are lining up for the PS3? But wasn't it delayed in Europe? Oo;; I thought you were getting it sometime next year.

Dammit! The ONE Toys R Us in my hometown was shut down 6 months ago.
