$500+ For the GTS(or is it GT?), and it's looking to be screaming fast.

Look for benchs around november 7-8 as NDAs lift.

Recommended PSU wattage on the GTX is only 450, the same as a 6800 Ultra. It's more power hungry than a 7-series GTX, but not by any stratospheric amounts. You could probably power it with a 300 or 350 Watt if it's a high quality unit.

They have seperate PSU for graphics cards as well as real 1000W PSU designs ready for these monsters.

Imagine the quad-SLI configurations of those things.

As for Quad SLI, I imagine two of those monsters in SLI will be adequate- NVIDIA is recommending an 800W PSU for that, IIRC. And your PC could double as a Foreman Grill.

People always predict that new generations of cards will be hugely hotter and more power hungry than the last, and they're always wrong. There are upward trends, to be sure, but they're very gradual. Anyone who buys a 1 kW PSU is an idiot, quite frankly.

As for NVidia's recommended wattage, this is what you have to understand: They're making those recommendations based on shitty PSU's that don't put out half as much power as they claim, and then adding an additional safety factor on top of that. The day a system with SLI'd 8800 GTX's draws 800 watts is the day it snows in Hell. Even 450 or 500 Watts would be good enough, given a quality manufacturer. It's good to be conservative about these things, but don't be so ridiculously conservative that you're spending $200 on a PSU when you only needed to spend $50.

As for Quad SLI, I'd call it unlikely. The 7950 GX2 was made possible by the low power consumption and heat output of the 7-series. There's a reason we haven't seen a similar offering from ATI, and it's the same reason we probably won't see an 8-series GX2 unless the refresh part is a lot cooler running.

From various leaked benchmarks, the G80 is 70% to up to 300% faster than a 7950 GX2; these scores have stired a ton of debate, too. I'm hoping they're true, becaused I'd like to get away from SLI for running my high res display.

Possible, ATi has just moved to a new Crossfire system that enables better chip to chip communication, this could easily be modified to include more cards, but the PCBs would have to be predesigned, or we'll be once again back to a Master Crossfire card with 2-3 Crossfire connectors and other stock cards.

I'd like to see a source, the interesting thing in this case with the G80 is that it's 'stream processors', and the breakdown of vertex and pixel pipelines is not clear. However, there should still be some distinction because as far as I know, this is not a unified shader part and none of the G80 line will be unified.

The leaked benchmarks have mostly been coming from Asian forums, and they've been discussed a ton on nvnews and beyond3d. Also, according to DailyTech's article last month, the G80 is unified; however, there has been debate on just what definition of "unified" Nvidia is using.

For someone who lives for GPUs, you should know this! Like you said, we'll have to wait for November.
