The old thing I'm currently using just doesn't cut it any longer. I don't game all that much these days, but I still want to have a machine which can at least run most recent titles more or less fluently.

Unfortunately I'm a little out off touch with the current status. Didn't really bother to keep myself informed for the last 1 1/2 year.

So what would be considered a good gaming computer at the moment, and where's the best place to buy one? Money's available, but I don't want to part with too much of it, so a good cost/performance ratio would be appreciated.

If you don't game much, then you can get a good one for very little money. What (if anything) will you be re-using from your previous system, and what resolution do you plan on playing at?

Also, are you willing to build your own computer, or do you want to buy one ready made?

AMD Athlon XP 2600+ (2.08GHz)
512 MB RAM
GeForce4 Ti 4200
Some old hard drive, whose designation I forgot and whose life expectancy seems to be nearing its end, judging by the noises it occasionally makes

Apart from the RAM I can't think of anything that could be of any use in a new system

Ready made prefered for simplicity, but unless things have changed since I bought the last one, ready mades usually aren't designed very well. So whatever brings the best results, I guess.

The RAM would actually not be of use in a new system either.

I was asking mostly about keyboard, mouse, and monitor.
