That's great. The best part is that this Greg fellow clearly doesn't get high marks on his reading comprehension tests.

"Valve never asks but now I'm asking."

Does not compute.

:D

Praxis, this is the best thing I've heard about all week. Gives me this nice, warm feeling deep down, in my colon...

Well the little brat's first mistake was trusting this guy. His second was trusting this guy after trying to pull a fast one on him.

Serves the punk right. I can only hope that he'll qualify for a Darwin Award nominaton later on in his life.

Hmmmm. Forgive my ignorance of system, but if someone already had a steam account (I assume the first guy does, because he was talking about playing a game on it later), why on earth would he want another?

I don't immediately see the point in going off trying to scam people in the game. Do they sell them or something?

One could order games using the person's credit card info stored on the Steam account, thus getting games for free.

Low digit SteamIDs are actually worth quite a bit too - I hear 4 digit ones can fetch more than $50. It doesn't actually give you any advantage though, it's just for bragging rights.

But of course all he has to do is call the toll-free number, give his identity and fax documents and so on to prove he's the card holder and not the guy who's hijacked his account, and he can get it back. Worse comes to worst he can deny the charges on the credit card which will result in steam banning the account and whoever stealing it gaining nothing.

Of course, a 13 year old probably will be in deep shit when he tells his parents he was stupid enough to give away his 79.95 Valve complete pack but then again 79.95 is like a million bucks when you're 13 so I would think he would just whine to his parents instead of mowing lawns. But then again he was stupid enough to fall for it, maybe he'll go and mow those lawns too .

Unfortunately...
br0kenrabbit wrote: Just so you people know I contacted him this morning and gave his account back. I may be an ******* but I'm not a prick.

I think his stupidity is punishment enough.

How can you tell what number yours is?

Go into your Steam folder. Open the steam.txt file. A few entries down will be a number somewhat like 1:1:11111. That's your Steam number.

In my opinion, storing information of one's credit card on the internet, on an account that can be hacked, is really asking for it.

I made a habit of never transmitting my card's details over the net. I always use a fax.
