HELP ME (Question about the end of the NJO)
Well folks, I've been basically hibernating from the Star Wars universe for the past year, so can anyone fill me in on the Vong crisis now? I started to lose interest when the Vong books just seemed to be a repeating arc of events, the Yong attack, the Republic retreats, and so on and so forth. So can anyone give me a link of a timeline of books, events, or anything like that, or perhaps post the latest events? THANKS.

Last events? Sure, the NR is no more, now it is the 'Galatic Free Federation Alliance' or some such bullshit name like that. The Vong were stopped by the 'living world' and despite having enough manpower to 'threaten the entire galaxy' they all managed to fit on this living world and disappear into the void in peace ...

Holy crap... so now there is no republic, and it's an Alliance? Does that mean there is no Galactic Senate? Are all planets now seperate nations?Crown wrote:Last events? So let me understand this, the Vong are still very strong yet they surrender? Why?
And how did the "Alliance" or whatever turn the tide of the war. When I stopped reading the books after like 8 books of the same thing, the Vong were wiping out the Republic. How did they turn it around? Sorry about all these questions, but like I said, I've been sleeping for about a year.
This stuff might just piss me off.... this Alliance thing sounds like bull crap.

Nah, that's all you get from me. I'm not re-living this shit again, no way. I'll change the title so that others could maybe have a go.

Basically, the YV surrendered for two main reasons.
- Their Supreme Overlord was dead without a successor.
- Some mumbo jumbo about a YV prophecy about a living planet.
Fragment of the Lord of Nightmares, release thy heavenly retribution. Blade of cold, black nothingness: become my power, become my body. Together, let us walk the path of destruction and smash even the souls of the Gods! RAGNA BLADE!

Ah, thats kind of neat, having the Jedi part of the ruling council, although also somewhat risky, persay if a group of them succummed to the Dark Side at the same time.Darth Yoshi wrote:Basically, the YV surrendered for two main reasons. The GA is basically the NR mk 2. I think the system of gov't isn't as tied down by bureacracy, and the Jedi are an active part of the ruling council.

Summary of the NJO last part
1- The Vong had lost alot of there forces, and I mean a lot. Fears were running high about the Jedi at this point. The Supreme Overlord even had shapers make 'Slayers', basically, Vong with implants to give them Jedi-like powers.
2- The GFFA (I agree with all, what a LAME name, next the Falcon will be part of the Galactic Starfleet, if that happens, I'm for bombing Del Ray) was ready to move against them and retake Coruscant, where most of the Vong had moved to
3- Luke and co and convinced the Living Planet (Zoma Sekot) to help in the war. by this point, all on the living planet (inc the planet itself), had learned the Vong are at the very least RELATED to it's native lifeforms, if not from it itself. obviously, Sekot is from another galaxy is this is true
(or the offspring of a similar planet)
4- The jedi all got custom grown Starfighters from Sekot
5- Someone used Alpha Red on a Vong world. It worked. Leia and co were not amused by it.
6- There were 3 battles at Coruscant, much like Return of the Jedi. The land attack was lead by some of the jedi, including Mara Jade and Tahiri. They found Nom Amor and he freaked and ran. He also resumed his role as the leader of the shamed ones and lead the shamed ones against the ruling Vong
7- Space Battle, not sure who commanded that.
8- Luke, Jaina and Jacen went after the Supreme Overlord Shimmira. Shimmira used Anakin's lightsaber in the fight, and Luke took his head off.
Jaina and Jacen when after Omni (the jester), who turns out could use the Force and had been using it to rule the Vong via Shimmira for years and years. (He regained Force access by an experiment he did as a shaper involing grafting Yammosk cells into his brain). He surprised and wounded Jaina, screaming at her. He was nuts and believed she was the Trickster goddess of the Vong, and that Omni was not her superrior diety. (He also saw the Supreme god of the Vong in Luke, the Shaper goddess in Tahari, and the redemer god in Jacen). Jacen fought the 'Vong Dark Jedi' Omni and killed him when he gave himself completely over to the Force ala Anakin in 'Star by Star'.
9- With the arrival of a Living Planet (something from old Vong religion) and the death of the Supreme Overlord, the Vong military (what was left) surrended. The priesthood revealed there was no 'Slayer' god, and they had made him up, and the Vong gave up there violence. As they started to migrate from Coruscant to Sekot, Luke periodically able to sense them in the Force. 2 of the Jedi (Tahiri and one of there healers) when with Sekot (Tahiri to learn of the Vong as she was as much Vong as human, the other to learn shaping) and Sekot left for the Unknown Regions again.
10- There were still Vong hold outs to be dealt with, but the Vong basically said 'they are all yours to kill, enjoy'
What we learn about the Vong from the final 2 - 3 books
The Vong were originally a peaceful race living on another living planet (possibly Sekot or it's parent planet, it's not really known but it was probably the parent, see below). They were all connected to that world via the Force. They were attacked by an alien race (possibly the one that gave them Shaping technology) and fought back. They then went on a rampage in other star systems, and the living planet they were from stripped the Vong as a race (and probably there creatures) of the Force, in much the same was Naomi Sunrider did to Ulic (I think it was Ulic) during the war with Exar Kun.
Eventually, The Vong formed a religion based on the pain and suffering they had with there lack of connection to the Force, and conquerer/destroyed there own galaxy. They then formed the caravan and headed out to find a new home.
(note: This is proof that the Force is not limited to just the Star Wars galaxy.)
During the inter-galactic voyage, the Vong fought amongst themselves, and several 'clans/families' were destroyed. They discovered the Star Wars galaxy during the reign of a previous Supreme Overlord, and sent in a scout party to check it out, which blundered into Sekot (the details of this are in the novel Rogue Planet.)
The 'at-time' supreme overlord knew about the truth of the Vong's history, including a living planet booting them and said 'nope', its not it'.
Omni (the jester-darkside using Vong) was like 'okay, 'nuff of this' and pulled some politcal crap (no idea how long it took, might have been 20 years, explaining the gap between Rogue Planet and Vector Prime') that put Shimmira, Omni's puppet in charge, and forming a sect in the Vong that knew the truth, and were rather worried about invading a galaxy that held a living planet.
Omni had Shimmira send in covert ops to destablize the target galaxy (and to probably find the living planet). That's why Nom Amor was in the galaxy and was featured during Crimson Empire.
Commence Vector Prime....

Addendum on Onimi: the experiment with the yammosk cells, which restored his access to the Force, also reduced him to a Shamed One. Something about the implant causing him to become deformed or rejecting other implants.

I believe it's the Galactic Federation of Free Alliances. Hopefully, they won't name their military the Galactic Federation of Free Alliances Armed Forces (GFFAAF), which is an even more ridiculous-looking acronym. Right up there with the Lyran Alliance Armed Forces.
And...well, a few of the NJO books are good, a few are really really horrible, and most are mediocre. IMO.

Yes, I agree that there was definately some neat space battles, but my gosh, the story drug on forever with no sight in end, and it seemed to be very redundant, with the same events occuring over and over. And even though the New Republic would sometimes find a way to win a battle here and there, it never seemed to be of that large of consequence. Thank God this series is over, I just hope the next series turns out better than this bull crap. And I also hope to God they re-establish the Republic, I don't even care if they call it the New-New Republic, but this Federation of Free Alliances/Planets/People/Gay-crap name just ticks me off.Lord Pounder wrote:Yeah, some kick ass fleet actions, as seen in Rebel Dream and Rebel Stand.Enforcer Talen wrote:-scratches neck- will I have missed anything decent by not reading a single vong book/
