Yeah but the sheer extent of clone deployments in some of the later comics and cartoons argues otherwise.

As well as the progress of the deployment of Seperatist forces inward (Operation DURGE'S LANCE).

We must not forget that the Seperatists are comprised of Industrial Unions, meaning that a good portion of their worlds should be dedicated to mining and industrial production (incl. ships, armour, battledroids, etc...) they also have the backing of a powerful banking company, where they may have access to all the funds necessary to building this vast military. At the current moment, 23 months after the Battle of Genosis, the Seperatists should have trillions of droids ready to fight the Republic, grossly outnumbering any millions of clones that they may have. This is probably why the CIS has been engaged in strikes deep into Republic territory; Durge's Lance has brought them as far as Duro, which is practically on Coruscant's doorstep.

The cartoon and comics will have a tendency to focus on Republic "successes" and areas where the clonetroopers are heavily comitted, ignoring the sectors which were less defended and vulnerable to Seperatists attacks.

Seperatists forces so far has also displayed a staggering level of stragetic idiocy, despite being granted so many advantages off the bat. The galactic battleground campaigns were simply too insignificant, despite the fluff attached to it in the game to have affected the war. Stragetic movements like Durge's lance and the like either appear to be aimed at keeping the GR off balance, dispatching miminal force or just incompetently handled on the part of Seperatists leaders.

With the various SDs at their disposal, the Empire doesn't really need a huge army. For over five hundred years, the empires of planet Earth used their fleets as their main enforcers of order. Spain controlled almost the entire Western Hemisphere from the 1500s to the early 1800s. During that time, Spain kept only a few thousand soldiers here, a few hundred there... The British Empire owned almost half the Earth's surface without mobilizing huge armies.

Like Britain and Spain, the Galactic Empire doesn't rely so much on its soldiers to control things as they rely on their ships.

Besides, most soldiering and policing is probably done by people other than stormtroopers. Like any empire, the GE would rely on local quislings and collaborators to keep order. If they were smart, Imperial officials would make sure that the local populations wouldn't even see much of the stormtroopers.

Palpatine doesn't need to create huge armies unless he's fighting against a huge army. The Rebels are described as a "band". Why should he bother raising hundreds of millions of stormtroopers when he's fighting a "band"?

This is about the Republic against the Confederacy, not the Empire. If the Republic just have 1.2 million clones, then that is less the number of planets in the galaxy. The Brittish Empire maybe didn't have a huge army but they certainly had more soldiers than there were countries on Earth.

As is, you cannot get around 1.2 million total around Shatterpoint.
Actually, you can, if you get really creative. He talks about how elite the clones are and how it would be nice for them to train others. Last Republic I read had ARC troopers going to train more clones.

You have 1.2 million ARC troopers, and trillions of clones.

Like I said, you have to be creative if you want it to work.

Fun math time: Core ships have 66 million cubic meters of cargo space. A folded battle droid is ~.5 cubic meters. 41 coreships escaped Geonosis.

Thats 1 day from one planet.

Trillions are needed to counter this, no matter how favorable you are towards clones
