The Battle of Kamino

Post by Icehawk »

I heard this was in one of the comic series and was just interested if anyone who has read the comics could give the lowdown on what happened. Specifically:

1) How big in scale was the battle?

2) Did the Seperatists get their asses kicked? or did they actually do some serious damage? Did clone production suffer?

Not that big IIRC. Maybe somewhere around ~3-5 Acclamators plus I think two or three dozen Jedi starfighters. The Seperatist forces I don't recall.

IIRC they did sufficient damage to set back clone production for some time.

Of course, I don't have the CW comnics volume that covers the battle of Kamino, so I'm going by what I remember form borrowing it from the library a couple of months ago.

Mon Cal forces had some fun during that little battle from what I read, which honestly wasn't much.
There are two kinds of people in the world: the kind who think it’s perfectly reasonable to strip-search a 13-year-old girl suspected of bringing ibuprofen to school, and the kind who think those people should be kept as far away from children as possible … Sometimes it’s hard to tell the difference between drug warriors and child molesters.” - Jacob Sullum

Its interesting that it would be a such a relatively small battle. Why wouldnt the seperatists go all out on it? Only reason I could think of would be Dooku holding them back.

Anyone else who have more info on the battle?

Count Dooku was holding the separtist back, since the sith wanted to shame the trade federation in the eyes of the separtists. After this the sith would have absolut control over the separtists.

Dooku didn't change his attack plan, even after he knew that the republic had a copy of that plan.

I seem to recall the Seperatist forces sending in one TradeFed Droid Control Ship under the authority of Commander Merai to destroy the cloning facilities. The ship was probably loaded with the regular compliment of 3,000 TPM droid fighters and a modernized battledroid army to invade the planet.

I would guess that the CIS could only spare a single Control Ship because their forces were busy securing their new territory. Remember that this battle occured early in the war, and so the CIS would be establishing connections and deploying ships to the tens of thousands of planets that decided to join after the Battle of Geonosis.

The whole timeline is confusing, hence while I will love it when the updated Essential Chronology is released in a few years time; there's TOO much Clone Wars stuff.

That being said, I'm reluctant to determine the fate of Kamino given that episode III isn't out. But there's a good chance that the specter of the cloning world could set into motion certain...wild cards in my Trek/Wars fanfic...

I've got the comic for this battle. Essentially, it was a Separatist strike to control the cloning center, to prevent the next series of troops from being sent into the battle. The Jedi managed to find out the plan, and set a trap.

Dooku gave the Mon Cal separatists the plans for the shield generator below the Kamino cities. All they had to do was destroy the shield generator, and the planet would be helpless (or some similar). Unfortunately, there was no generator there, so the Sep admiral realizes that he must have been set up.

The droids inside the facility manage to capture the central armory (where the clones were getting their helmets in the movie), most of the clones were taken down, and the last ones were guarding the children.

The Kaminoans were debating whether or not to activate the ARC troopers, as they said the ARC guys were too independant. The Jedi said they would control the ARC troopers, and the Kaminoans activated them. The ARC guys then tore through the droids.

Cute quote from one of the ARC guys, "I've never worked with Jedi before, but I had been expecting, more." Essentially, he was commenting earlier that while they were standing around and talking, the droids weren't, and that they had better get moving."

Dooku had sent the admiral in, even though the admiral was very valuable. Sidious overruled him, and said they had other admirals in the Separatists, who were far more controllable. So this battle from the Sith's point of view was primarily to get rid of the independant admirals, so Dooku could manipulate the Separatists afterwards.
