Thanks for the quote, Bob. I am of the opinion that the unaltered versions should be released, but I personally prefer the SE's.

That would be fine with me.

As for "why", I'll see if I can put it into words. In addition to things that people often complain about (Greedo, Luke's scream in TESB, that annoying Jabba's palace dance sequence), almost all of the scenes or effects that are added are simply utterly inconsequential. I mean, how important was it for us to see Stormtroopers riding Dewbacks, more shots of the Wampa, pasting a mouth onto the Sarlaac, etc.? Whenever I see these things, it takes me out of the moment. It makes me think, "Oh, there's something they added." And 99% of the time, it's something totally unnecessary. Moreover, all of these "additions" are not only noticeable because they're different, but because they look out of place compared to everything else. You can *see* the new technology at work, and it just doesn't mesh with the rest of the film. Corny though it may sound, I'm rather partial to those old models and puppets. It just doesn't feel like Star Wars to me without them.

So ultimately, my feelings about the SE is that it changed a couple things for the worse, and added some new bells and whistles that at best I don't care about, and at worst stick out like a sore thumb to me. Perhaps "loathe" was rather strong. I wouldn't really care, if he'd just release the unaltered originals.
Is it a crime to try and learn the truth? Is it a sin to search for those things which you fear? My purpose in this world is knowledge, and the dissemination of it. And it is I who is to restore the fruits of my labors to the entire world. Wake up! Don’t be afraid of knowledge! Humans who loose the capacity to think become creatures whose existence has no value. Think, you humans who are split into two worlds! Unless you want the gulf between humans to expand into oblivion, YOU MUST THINK! - Schwarzwald
