Coolest smuggler ship : Ebon Hawk vs Millenium Falcon

Post by The Nomad »

Which one would you rather own ? The famous Millenium Falcon or the magnificent Ebon Hawk ? Given the technological stasis in the SW universe, I don't think 4,000 years make a big difference as far as technological sophistication is concerned ( or at least, nothing that a bit of upgrading could not solve )...

I , myself, would gladly pilot the Ebon Hawk across the Galaxy... she has a lot of room ( I wonder where the power core is, there are only the two engines and the hyperdrive generator in the engineering section ), a dedicated sickbay, can hold swoop bikes, and even features a cookery :D ... the SW.com databank mentions only her dual turret, but I'm sure the two big thingies on each side of the baby are turbolasers as well ( not finished KOTOR yet, so please don't spoil... ). And who knows what other weapons she has... And of course, her cockpit's in her middle axis, making her much simpler to pilot IMHO...

So, which one would be your first choice ?

The point of smuggling is not to attract attention to yourself. There are millions of YT-1300s in the galaxy, including ones that have really wierd modifications. There is nothing like the Ebon Hawk in the galaxy. Sure, there are ships in similar style, like the fighter on the top of the temple (see, no spoilers), but there is no other ship in it's class. Which would make it stick out in a lawman's memory. Which is bad.

I voted the Falcon, just because she was my first love. The Hawk is cool, and a good piece of design (unusual in the EU).

Though I'd still take the YT2000 over both of em.

YT3000 => you don't have to use it exclusively as a smuggling ship... after all, the Falcon was used as a warship, wasn't she :) ?

Knife => well, I might make a thread including other smuggling ships later... but right now I'm just playing KOTOR so nah :P .

I'd have to say the Ebon Hawk, it's just a cool, sleek machine compared to the rather unattractive Falcon.

That's funny, I would argue exactly the opposite- Falcon, as opposed to the rather unattractive Ebon Hawk...

Millenium Falcon takes my heart away.

The Ebon Hawk looks like an A-Wing's engines were slapped on it.
I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season."

Not to mention that they totally fucked up the length. There's no way that you could fit all that stuff into a 24-meter-long ship...

Don't get me wrong. Like I said, as EU designs go, the Ebon is awsome. Though I don't get why they left a gap on the port side between the command coupala and the outer edge of the saucer? On the starboard side, its the same area that has the ramp, but on the port, its non exsistent and that seems wierd if not symetrical.

They did do a good job with it though.

If it was designed as a freighter, the Hawk's "gap" might have been intended to secure external cargo modules that couldn't fit inside the ship.

Bob Brown theorized the same thing for the Falcon, that the mandibles could be used to hold large cargo containers in place and that's why the cockpit was offset to the side.

Except for the origin all of that applies to the Falcon, too.
No mention of the design being unique, merely that it's been heavily modified.

1. 'Possibly' a prototype.
2. Not unique in a way that neccessarily stands out like a sore thumb, no.
For all we know the overall design was common as mud at the time.

No it don't. AotC's shows two YT1300's on Naboo that look pretty much like the Falcon (just missing the large radar dish) so the Falcon wasn't modified beyond class reconition.

I've never bought into that theory. Perahps a snap on module but not a 'train' of cargo. If anything, the sheer manuverability of SW light freighters seen would make flying with a train of modules extremely difficult. You'd loose alot of $ by bumping your joystick and snapping the cargo module 'train' in half.

No it wasn't. The exerpt says it was modified so much that the original class is unrecognizable. If you don't know what it looks like, and you've never seen anything like it, you will remember it.

It doesn't have to be a train, but I see nothing wrong with the idea. Hell, the Nebulon-B looks pretty flimsy too.

Luke skywalker said the Falcon was a piece of junk. Who are we to argue with a jedi. If luke said it was shit, then the falcon is shit. I agree with him.

The Ebon also seems to have more room and is considered to be something special and it was owned by a rich man (its like some sort of sports car).

Ebon gets my vote.

Luke also said 'I can't see a thing in this helmet' which was obviously hyperbole, and he had more relevant information then (he was actually wearing the helmet wheras the 'piece of junk comment' was a first impressin based solely on visuals we KNOW to be intentionally decieving).
The Ebon also seems to have more room
Which is an inherent advantage why?
and is considered to be something special
And the Falcon is NOT?
and it was owned by a rich man (its like some sort of sports car).
So was the Falcon, at least two actually:
Lando was, if intermittendly, rich, ocasionally filthy rich
Han at one point owned an entire planet
Ebon gets my vote.

Fine.Less contestants for the Falcon.
