It's not inside info, it's just an interesting anecdote about 7 8 and 9.

Well Lucas better be planning far future for 7-9, given the way Hamill, Ford and Fisher look like.

And yeech on the SW TV.

If there was a 7-9 I'd prefer it if Mark Hamil was the only major recurring character (the droids as well, and maybe Chewbacca... yes, I know that would be throwing out the NJO and you know what? I couldn't give a shit). I doubt Harrison Ford would even WANT to reprise his role as Han, while Carrie Fisher is probably the same.

Also there is the major problem of what to do.

I mean literally what worked for SW and why even to smidgen it works for the PT is that the story is start, middle, end.

Seriously he ended enough in RoTJ that he never need to touch those character again because like he wanted he weaved a nice fantasy tale.

Adding to it is something like saying after they live happily ever after...oh wait, big evil on the horizon.

It works for some bits...but I really don't trust Lucas to pull it off again.

Personally I don't think Lucas pulled it off to begin with. Half of the OT was written by other people. And as for the PT... well, it would be nice if half of that was written by someone else.

Besides, the argument against a sequel trilogy is the same against the prequel trilogy. I've never felt that the PT was necessary to the plot, and IMO it gets a few things wrong as well. In any case, if GL wants to do a PT with a new set of characters and actors playing older characters in their young days then why not do a sequel trilogy with completely new characters? ROTJ leaves things hanging unresolved. Yeah the emperor's dead, but what of the empire? Yeah Luke's a Jedi - but he's only one schmuck in a big bad universe. The sequel trilogy could be about the Jedi order coming back in the form of the NJO.

Directed...Lucas actually had a great deal of writing talent for his part...when not directing.

But that's the problem the Prequel has a easy subject...the Clone wars.

The revival of the Empire is hackneyed on many levels and seriously done to death on too many EU(main reason I lost so much after Thrawn Trilogy let alone Dark Empire). It's why on many levels the EU is hit and miss. Strangely NJO had the formula right...just had too many chefs.

I mean it's like going "Behold you have defeated the Ultimate evil!!!.....oh wait, you missed a spot."

What succeeded for the OT and what does work for some of the PT is that there is this magnificent background war....with the newest one you're going to have to basically shove something huge that involves a lot or it'll be no differnt then many of the bad EU material....just with Lucas name attached to it and it being on screen.

If we're talking Direction then Lucas only did 1/3 of the OT; as for writing he didn't write the screenplay for ESB, and he only co-wrote ROTJ - thereby I come to my crappy 'figure' of 1/2 the OT. ;)

Throw the EU out. Most of it is shit anyway.

Yah. So why can't the NJO be adapted to movie format? I'M NOT TALKING ABOUT THE YOU-SHIT BONG, but the generaly principle of the NJO - ie the Jedi returning to prominence in galactic affairs.

Why can't the big bad guys be the Empire?

Eh it doesn't really matter anyway. If Lucas wants to make a sequel trilogy then good for him; if not, well I still have the Thrawn trilogy, so I ain't complaining.

But it was his.

Literally it's the problem I have the thought of beyond part 6...because 7-9 was part 6.

The big problem is how it sounds for Lucas to go "Another dark empire of evil coming from another galaxy!"

Oh and SW is involved.

He made the OT in a way that was literally here's good...here's evil and RoTJ is the culmination.

Essentially it's taking the story after it's hits it's climax and ending and going...wait, just kidding there's another 12 chapters. It's just poor.

True, if he does...he will.

I just won't see it....I missed most the EU because after a point I couldn't take it and Thrawn was good because it was so shiny, new, and good.

Just expressing why I feel doing another trilogy would just be poor.

I haven´t listened to the Hamill-mp3 yet, but it seems he´s only talking about something Lucas mentioned many years ago, not something that´s relevant today.

While it would be cool to see the Yuuzhan Vong on the big screen, I agree with GR and Stofsk; if you're going to have Eps 7-9, utilize the Jedi's rebuilding and re-discovery aspects as shown in the NJO.

I don't believe it. Something's amiss.

Hypothetical scenario, Eps 7-9 are made, they will almost surely suck.

i have to disagree with that, the PT was very neccessary in the whole series. It changes the whole series main character. It pretty much changed the whole feeling of the movie, well for me anyways.

Plus i was going to download the Hamill clip off the page that tf.n gave but it took forever

When 7,8,9 was actually talked about, before Lucas insisted he never did, Lucas said 7,8,9 wouldn't have anything to do with classic trilogy characters at all, except Luke. And Luke would be a very old man in the Kenobi role.

Heh, I just listened to the Hamill interview, which confirms I wasn't seeing things in those magazines I read in the 80's!

The prospect does not loog good if episode 7, 8, 9 are indeed made. The original triology had a fantastic happy ending that tied all the loose ends togather. A new triology of episode 7, 8, 9 are going ruin such a perfect ending. However a new TV series set in the clone wars era could work. It would answer a lot of questions about the Republic and the galactic civil war.
I have to tell you something everything I wrote above is a lie.
