Hyperspace Lanes
What are these? Are these like transwarp corridors or just safe places of travel between stars and planets?

They're large well charted routes between different systems that often span across the Galaxy, and heavily used for travel and shipping.
I believe in a sign of Zeta.

Just charted safe routes to travel between stars and other obstacles.Fleet Admiral Blair wrote:What are these? Are these like transwarp corridors or just safe places of travel between stars and planets?
It's Rogue, not Rouge!

Hyperspace lanes are also probably equipped with navigation beacons, sensors that monitor hyperspace traffic as well as SAR teams to rescue ships lost in space.
Last but not least, its probable a complex system has been worked out such that MASSIVE, travel in these lanes has been worked out, while allowing high speeds(think of them as highways). This probably explains their importance in the SWU. These lanes allow for large numbers of ships to travel and exit at a jump point together, thus providing economy of force.

Re: Hyperspace Lanes
Since gravity affects hyperdrive (meaning a black hole can pull you out of hyperspace on top of it and suck you up), and you go so fast in hyperspace that you're unable to maneuver (since you're outrunning your own sensors and can't see whats in front of you), it is recommended you plot a course BEFORE jumping to hyperspace. Hyperspace lanes are known routes between planets that are safe (no stars, asteroid belts, gravitic anomalies, nebulas, etc in the way), and as stars shift the routs change.Fleet Admiral Blair wrote:What are these? That's why in Destiny's Way there is only one way in and one way out of the Ebaq system- it's in the middle of a dense cluster of stars (the core of the galaxy) that makes it really tough to find a safe hyperspace rout to another system.

To wit: Hyperspace lanes are the interstates of the SW Galaxy. You have the "country roads", then you've got the "state roads", "state highways", and finally, the "interstates", all of which interconnect-- county roads > state roads > state hwys > interstates. And, if you want a direct route, you more or less have to plot it yourself, similar to going offroad in order to cut a few hours off travel time. However, since the hyperspace lanes have been charted and are kept safe as a matter of course, it's natural that most would want to take those routes even though they take longer; it would be mostly smugglers, adventurers and explorers like Han Solo who would go off on their own without taking charted routes.
It's a strange world. Let's keep it that way.
And which will be a problem for the GFFA; even though the Vong's weapons of war and navy are gone, there are still thousands, if not, millions of functional dovin basal mines still seeded along many of these routes. It's going to take the Alliance some time to correct this problem, though one suspects its near the top of their priority list if they want to get the galacatic economy back up and running.Praxis wrote:Unless you're referring to the BIG lanes, like the Hydian way or stuff like that (Shown on the map)? Those are the well know trade routes, hyperspace lanes that pass through several well known worlds like Corellian and Coruscant and Chandrilla. Those are the big lanes that the Vong would mine.
Not really THAT hard. Send a few thousand squadrons of fighters in groups of two squadrons, and have each squadron travel across different well known travel routes. Every time they get pulled out, they nuke the Dovin Basal mine. After all, the Vong only planted them in the well known routes that the miltary would use, and that refugee convoys would go through.
Normally, yes -- unless you take into account that the Alliance fleet lost 11,000 starfighters during the final push for Coruscant. With the in-fighting in outlying systems and the required forces there, it's going to be a long, hard cleanup for the entire Vong invasion.Praxis wrote:Not really THAT hard.
