Does George Lucas have a blood lust?
Seeing all the Imps he killed in the original sereis...they just die left and right, in most cases just for the sake of it, seemingly

So? That's pretty common in action movies and it doesn't mean every action movie director is a bloodlusting nut.RayCav of ASVS wrote:Seeing all the Imps he killed in the original sereis...they just die left and right, in most cases just for the sake of it, seemingly

Heh, that's nothing compared to Yoshiyuki "Kill 'Em All" Tomino, an anime writer and director famous for killing roughly half of the entire casts for his shows.
I believe in a sign of Zeta.

Now my interest is piquedneoolong wrote:In Hard-Boiled the body count was about 230. I don't know how that breaks down for the opening restaurant.
The body count for The Killer was 120.
It's not about the blood, it's about the style for how they die.

But he kills a lot of people. I mean, he seems to arbitrarily kill people!Kelly Antilles wrote:To be "blood lust" you'd have seen each one die graphically. He didn't even kill Obi-Wan!

no, HE doesn't. The Empire and the Rebels do. What about the destruction of Alderaan? It's all a story. In our own history, there are tales of great destruction. It doesn't mean that George has blood lust.RayCav of ASVS wrote:But he kills a lot of people. But here's the thing. Like, how he has TIE Interceptors running into stuff left and right at Endor, for no real reason. Not only is he murdering a lot of people, he's making it look stupid in the process.Kelly Antilles wrote:no, HE doesn't. The Empire and the Rebels do. What about the destruction of Alderaan? He has TIEs flying OUT of Star Destroyers, as in suddenly they appear, in RotJ. I still don't see why you think George has a lust for blood.RayCav of ASVS wrote:

I'm thinking that if George Lucas actually had a blood lust the deaths wouldn't be so far removed. Look at the deaths. You rarely see any expression of pain. You hear some screams sometimes. But you usually see a fighter blowing up, a guy getting hit and falling down, but that's basically it. You don't see many severed heads, torsos(1 I think), and very little blood(the arm severing in ANH).
If he really had blood he would have loaded the guys with blood packs so that when people died, they would have tons of blood come out like it was some splatter movie. But, you don't. People die in the films because it has no weight otherwise. We don't need to see the people on Alderaan die graphically for it to have an effect. Obi Wan's words and reactions to their deaths is enough to carry the emotion of how far the Empire is willing to go. We don't have to see graphic deaths to be moved and George Lucas knows this. As a result he refrains from showing it because he doesn't need to. This restraint shows that he does not have a blood lust.
Oh the other hand I think that we need more Natalie Portman. But, that's another rant.

If SW is directed with bloodlust in mind, then what is Saving Private Ryan?
I mean it is not the aim of either film to revel in bloodshed.
However, they both show the realities of war. Soldiers on either side, and innocent bystanders more and more as tech has progressed, stand a good chance of being killed apparently at random. Thats what makes war terrible to the individual, and thats what wars are designed to do: Terrify the enemy enough to make them surrender rather then continue the fight. (easyer then destroy their ability to fight, which is the alternative). Terrorism is the same, just taken to a more extreme form.
If you are making a movie about an armed overthrowal of a government and you don't show people (other then the bad guys, in this case Palpy, Vader & Tarkin) getting hurt, then you are unrealistic, insulting the intelligence of your audience, and showing all the less appealing signs of being imployed by a film company in Hollywood.
