Unknown Regions: SW Galaxy Quadrant or Galactic Halo?

Post by Illuminatus Primus »

The NJO maps repetatively show an image of the Unknown Regions and an unexplored/settled quadrant of the SW galactic disk.

However, the Tech. Commentaries by Dr. Saxton reveal this is absurd for a civilization with hyperdrive technology such as it has and there's no reason they'd be unable to explore part of the galactic disk after 25,000 + years, and maintained the Unknown Regions must be composed of the stellar material and clusters located in the mostly vacuous galactic disk.

AoTC shows a Galaxy-wide map in the Jedi Archives showing a completely explored galaxy.

Actually, the NJO maps clearly show that "Wild Space" extends nearly around the entire galactic disk, with much unexplored territory out on the rim. Having said that, the NJO map is not correct, though it would make sense if much of the Unknown Regions are in a particular location, so Thrawn could map and conquer them more easily. Note that the Unknown Regions may have been known to a certain extent (SW ships can move outside of the Galaxy, so they could easily photograph the Galaxy for the Galactic Map in AotC), but Unknown in that they have not been fully charted and explored. The apparent discrepency can be rationalized in this manner.

Bull. There's no way they just "left out" a quarter of the galactic disk for charting, developing, maping, and colonizing in 25,000 years of hyperspace travel.

What's more, we ignore the 14.8 km bull they send us, so why don't we just take Dr. Saxton's interesting little assumption that the Unknown Regions label is refering to the area of the halo above the galactic disk in the quadrant of the galaxy .
