It occurs to me that...(Regarding Luke and Leia)

Post by Chardok »

If Obi-Wan we're really so "Wise" in hiding luke and Leia from the Empire and specifically Vader, that it probably would have been a good idea to possibly tell Beru and Owen *not* give Luke the last name of Skywalker, eh? Or perhaps, just perhaps, this points to another conclusion: That Leia was actually *more* important in the grand scheme of things. After all, without her, the Empire's 1st DS may well have subjugated the galaxy and decimated the Rebellion.

Just a thought.

It's possible that Skywalker may have been a not-too common, but still known name though. We'll of course have to wait how things turn out with ROTS, especially with the now-altered Vader/Palpatine dialouge from TESB.

Meh, with the pain of his mothers death on Tatooine, it was pretty much assured that Vader wouldn't be coming back. Walking around as a Skywalker wasn't going to get you much on a partially habited dust ball extremely far removed from anywhere near civilized.

Leia's name change makes more sense, seeing as how she was in a galactic hub.

There's always the "I, Jedi" theory that Luke kept the last name Skywalker because Vader was SUPPOSED to find out about him (say, when Luke applied for the Imperial Academy) and come after him...and Obi-Wan Kenobi would be there to at least try to kill Vader.

This is of course brought into question by the way Kenobi threw the match on the DS against Vader by letting Vader kill him; however, it might have been obvious to him by then that he was outmatched, and thought he could do more good preparing Luke to fight Vader than to keep pressing the attack.

I just figured Obi knew it was gonna be a long fight, win or lose, and let himself die just to end it and get Luke out of there before another billion stormies showed up.
If Religion and Politics were characters on a soap opera, Religion would be the one that goes insane with jealousy over Politics' intimate relationship with Reality, and secretly murder Politics in the night, skin the corpse, and run around its apartment wearing the skin like a cape shouting "My votes now! Other than being a 32-year old statistic for winning one of the Boonta Eve Classics, I seriously doubt that any more than a handful of people still living in Mos Espa would remember the name Skywalker.

Especially with Luke living near Mos Eisley

There are other things to consider. Even with an Imperial presence on the planet, the planet still appears to be controled by Jabba. It looks like that Jabba seems to get away with just about anything he wants on this planet. Placing Luke on a dustball is good placing him on one the Empire can almost not afford to mess with is even better!

not just a dustball, a Hutt-cartel controlled dustball that Vader himself swore he'd never set foot on again.

One novel indicated that "Skywalker" may not be completely uncommon. I don't recall which one, or the exact quote, but it went something like "It was one of those names, Sky rider, moon walker, something like that." in regards about Luke.

That plan wouldn't work. How would Vader know if Luke joined the Academy or not? The only way it would work is if Luke somehow was assigned to a unit in close proximity to Vader and, needless to say, the chances of that happening are not too good. Also, how is Obi-Wan supposed to show up wherever Luke is assigned?
