SSD Names

Post by Kuja »

How many SSDs have we seen in canon SW (including the EU)?

Here's the ones I remember:

Executor
Vengeance
Lusankya
Brawl/Iron Fist (renamed)
Razor's Kiss
Intimidator
Knight Hammer

Now, I KNOW that there's more than these, but either I can't remember them or haven't seen them. Care to help me out?

The Yevetha built multiple ships with the IFF of Intimidator, renaming the flagship Pride of Yevetha. I don't know if that counts, though. What was the Vengeance?

There was the SSD from XvT Ballance of Power.

Terror, from Rebel Assault II.

Guardian, from Star Wars: The Essential Chronology, NJO Agents of Chaos II: Jedi Eclipse, Wanted By Cracken/WEG.

Reaper, from Star Wars: The Essential Chronology, Star Wars Adventure Journal.

Vengeance, from X-wing vs. TIE Fighter: Balance of Power.

The Vengeance from Jedi Knight is not an Executor-class. Dr. Saxton has a good description of it. http://www.theforce.net/swtc/dagger.html#vengeance
Star Trek vs. Star Wars, Extralife style.

The Yevetha captured three Executors but only The Pride of Yevetha was ever named.

Speaking of SWTC
http://www.theforce.net/swtc/ssdlist.html

Executor
Reaper
Terror
Guardian
Vengeance: Note, there are two different Vengeance's.
Aggressor
Iron Fist
Lusankya
Knight Hammer
Intimidator
Razor Kiss
[unknown]
There are also the two other Yevethan vessels
I've also heard that there is a comic book SSD named the Vacillitator

I found it:

Vacillitator (SWWC: Convergence stories series, Andrew Modeen)
Star Trek vs. Star Wars, Extralife style.

the Yevetha only caputed one SSD, they simply copied the design and of the Star Destroyers. No Ship Yard had space to build 3 SSD's remember the SSD was only tranfered to the shipyard for finishing touches coz the KDY yards needed to free up space to build more.

Incorrect. Page 138 of Before The Storm says that the Three of the Black Fleet's 44 vessels where Super Class. These are the ships that where captured, not built. The fact that additional ships where being built in the shipyards is mentioned seperatly.

The Yevetha had three SSDs. What happened to the other two I have no idea what happened to them.

Hijacked along with the rest of the Imperial designed ships, I'd imagine. Supposedly, not knowing Byss (the planet) had been destroyed they flew them a little too close to the sun and destroyed/crippled them.

No doubt they where seized by the Imperial crews like the first and returned to Imperial space. The battle at the end of the series did not involved the full forces of both sides. There where multiple forces clashing across the cluster.

Which sucks, because I always thought the battle at the end was too short and not well described. Especially when compared to the first book. Fuck the Vagabond.

I've never heard that. Where's it from?

The fact that the Empire had a Executor in Destiny's Way has made me suspect that one of the Black Sword vessels might still have been around, while the bulk of the remaining Imperial cruiser and battleship fleet had gathered by the Emperor at Byss and lost with the planet. That's how I've always rationalized Thawn's lack of heavy capital units. The Emperor used the force to summon most that where left after the Imperial civil war to his own command. Thus the Rebels rarely encountered anything bigger then a ISD and began to think they where uncommon.

Yeah, it was way too short. Though it was somewhat made up for by the earlier shipyard battle. One of the best small actions in the EU. Though overall the good battles don't make up for the overall relatively poor trilogy. Not the worst by far though.

Wasn't one of the Black Fleet SSDs scuttled in the Unknown Regions?

They probably did but with things going down the crapper they probably couldn't do anything about it.

The Intimidator was found derelict near the Unknown Regions; maybe Thrawn's troops out there or whatever they've been fighting caught up with part of the Black Fleet?

Maybe Thrawn used the dead SSD to build and equip his Hand of Thrawn?

The Intimidator and her two sister ships were stolen by the Yevetha eight months after the Battle of Endor, and were not seen again for eleven years. Admiral Thrawn had been dead for six years by the time that the Intimidator was liberated from the Yevetha by Major Sorannon.

Have you not read the Hand of Thrawn duology, Publicus?

Thrawn made a base in the Unknown Regions during his campiagns under the Emperor that was intended to be his ace-in-the-hole.

It was staffed with surviving remnants of the Imperial forces in the Unknown Regions "mapping" expedition as well as defectors from his own people, the Chiss.

The Chiss ruling families ignore Thrawn's supporters in the Unknown Regions, but they've founded a new House under Thrawn's name (House Mitthrawnorudo) with the supposed mission of safeguarding the Chiss, the Unknown Regions and possibly the entire galaxy from an unknown threat.

Thrawn had set up sleeper cells of clones throughout his territory 5 years after Endor and they were depending on his return 10 years later.

It is possible House Mitthrawnuroudo was responsible for destroying the DLS Pride of Yevetha/HIMS Intimidator. It is also possible whatever threat they spoke of in Spectre of the Past was responsible.

It is chronologically impossible for this to have happened, because, as you mentioned, Illuminatus Primus, the Hand of Thrawn was established by Admiral Thrawn himself; Admiral Thrawn was killed five years after the Intimidator was stolen by the Yevetha.

Yes, it is possible that either the Hand of Thrawn or the one of the alleged threats against which is is ostensibly established is responsible for the eventual destruction of the Intimidator, but that is actually irrelevant to the question of whether or not the Intimidator was used by Admiral Thrawn to establish and equip the Hand of Thrawn.
