Other examples would be if the creature has a very slow cellular replacement rate, it would be much more susceptible to radiation sickness then others and couldn't tolerate the environment.

This is much jmore complex then your whining of "its unoriginal" suggests. Like I said: woefully small world view.
hmmm. i didn't think about that.

however, when i was referring to a four-footed creature, i meant one with 6 limbs, but four dedicated to walking. or, a creature with 4 feet, but extremely modified pedepalp like organs.

You fucking douche, I just did. FOR TWO FUCKING PAGES. You cannot smelt metals underwater. It ain't fucking possible, kid.
sorry, i should've been more specific. i was just speaking of terrestrial forms. why should a bipedal, upright creature have an advantage over a low slung quadreped, as long as both have competent manipulators, a large brain, and the ability to advance and create technology.

of course, this would require the creature to be social (most likely).

This has been discussed, repeatedly. Bipedal lifeforms are required because a foot has a different set of requirements than a hand.

All intelligent creatures should be social creatures, because without feedback, there's not much to be intelligent about.
