Coruscant ecosystem
With the entire planet covered by a huge city and little or no visible vegetation where do oxygen comes from and carbon dioxide is recycled ?
I have to tell you something everything I wrote above is a lie.

I could guess several possibilities
1) If there are oceans and seas still around, a good amount can by recycled there, hell, most of ours comes from our giant oceans.
2) Algae/slime/mold. The underparts of the city are supposed to be RIFE with them.
3) Artificial means. It's not wholly unfeasible for 'em to be produced by factories and scrubbers.

i'm not so good in chemistry or other exact sciences, but I presume they could gain Oxygen and Hydrogen by breaking water molecules (the term is electrolisis IIRC). We do know that they ship entire fleets of freighters with water (there was an example on this board how a planet was sucked dry and the water transported to Coruscant). I think there are means to catch CO2 from atmosphere and replace it with the newly created O2, while the Hydrogen could be used to power up fusion reactors (if they are still used).
In my opinion there is a possibility that at least part of the O2 could come this way.

Not all Dacians died at Sarmizegetusa
It seems entirely plausible for Coruscant to have huge converters that take in CO2 and split it into O2 and a shitload of excess carbon that can be used to make food. Or better yet, pump out some sugar to use in food production. This all takes energy of course, but that's one thing that is not in short supply for SW.

this is all explained in "the new jedi order" series. coruscant is inundated with large machines that are in charge of producing the required gases that fill the atmosphere. emporer palpatine had coruscant rigged up in the way that the machines would shut off if the empired didnt take over. that was supposedly the last resort against the old republic if things hadnt gone his way.

You know...... with all the emphasis on these biotech machines in NJO, can everyone please remember that in that same book, it also states that there are mechanical air filters and vents?
