Thermal Detanators and Missiles
Does anyone have energy numbers, I repeat numbers, derived from an explicit source or calcs, on the strength of a starfighter grade Thermal Detanator? Or just those for the hand held would do I guess, but pref the bomber type.
In addition, does anyone have the relative strengths for missile weapons from the old TIE fighter and x-wing games? I know someone has them, I just can't remember who. THey posted about torps being 3.3 times the strength of CMs, and I'm looking for the conversion factors for the Heavy Rockets and Heavy Bombs and what not.

Seggy, thanks, that is what I was looking for.

It was also 1 detonator. He kept the first, dropped the second.

Right, I knew they existed. Where can I find those?Connor MacLeod wrote:The Bacta War ice calcs. The same ones that Lord Edam tried to misrepresent and misuse towards his own deluded ends.

Proton torpedoes have vastly different warhead yields, depending on what the purpose is. Lower yields (1 kt to a ocuple KT implied by laser yields in AOTC ICS) probably are ideal for ground attack roles.
I believe Wayne's site also had a nice "rebuttal" to Edam's Bacta War assumptions (the calcs seem ok, thouhg DasBastard was really nailing him on that as I recall.)

Right now I'm sifting through that thread trying to figure out who is right, Edam saying that DaBastard and HDS got 70 MT, or DaBastard saying you can get 196 MT. I can't find reference to either outside of oneliners, so...

Do your own calcs.. they're not really that difficult to do.Ender wrote:Right now I'm sifting through that thread trying to figure out who is right, Edam saying that DaBastard and HDS got 70 MT, or DaBastard saying you can get 196 MT. I can't find reference to either outside of oneliners, so...
All you really need is the density of the ice, the melting/vaporization energy (both can probably be gotten from Mike's site, he's done calcs for ice asteroids) and the volume affected (kilomter wide and maybe half a kilometer deep, IIRC)
Then all you need are the number of TD's - low end was 4 or 8 (I forget how many TIE bombers there were 2 per bomber) and high end is around 128-256 (TIE Bombers can carry no more than 64 TD's)
IIRC my own calcs they were around 70-100 MT total, so Edam's aren't really THAT far off.
a kilometre round and half that deep. DasBastard and HDS's mistake was using a km across. You should get about 30MT to make the crater, divided between however many thermal detonators you think are dropped.Connor MacLeod wrote: All you really need is the density of the ice, the melting/vaporization energy (both can probably be gotten from Mike's site, he's done calcs for ice asteroids) and the volume affected (kilomter wide and maybe half a kilometer deep, IIRC)
relevant quotes and energy figures are available from http://www.trek-wars.info/BactaWar.html
There's no way to get much higher than 30MT without really pushing things to the extreme in an attempt to inflate the figures
Wayne's not got anything about these calcs on his website, though he has put up stuff about the Trek shield stuff as "the cheesy red herring", and some of my other stuff is mentioned in the relevant section.
