Ultimate Star Wars Tech
Watched Attack of the Clones again over the weekend (IMAX) and I started to think.
What is the most advanced tech you ever see in Star Wars? Have we ever really seen anything that compares to when Obiwan tries to communicate directly with Coruscant and fails? That itself isnt huge but what he does next is huge. In a matter of moments the systems on his small fighter scans the entire portion of the Galaxy that is in range. In less than a minute it tracks them down to Tatooine. How is that for high tech?
Of course this leads to a huge hole in the plot but that is besides the point that Obiwan had this level of tech available to him on a single fighter.

The plot hole is the whole scene. What is Obiwan scanning for when he tries to contact Anakin? One has to guess he was scanning for a ship. Yet Anakin did not travel to Naboo on his own ship or on a Naboo ship.
Anakin and Amidala travelled incognito to Naboo on a refugee ship. So what was Obiwan scanning for when he tried to contact Anakin?
Anakin was protecting Amidala from attack. So broadcasting his location via some central database isnt very smart. So it would have made more sense for Obiwan to have to talk to someone on Naboo for a moment and be told that Anakin is not on Naboo. Then he would learn that Anakin left on a ship and Obiwan could scan for that ship.
Instead somehow Obiwan instantly knows Anakin isnt on a planet he is supposed to be hiding on and then instantly knows how to track him down and contact his ship.
Its a hole plot.

erm no.
anakin has his own unique tracking mojo whatever.
it's like having a phone number. if no one knows the phone number belongs to you, then no one can ring you up, if a certain individual knows your phone number.. then they can contact you.. etc
replace phone number with homing beacon and phone number with unique signature and you get the idea.
it's not like people after padme can just track down some random beacon and go yep that's anakin skywalker and he went off with her on a refugee ship..
understand ?

speaking of tech
I was watching clones on DVD last night and there is one thing i found odd. When Obi Wan was chasing Jengo and Boba Fett off of the cloners base ,Boba Fett fires the ship mounted blasters at Obi Wan and just barely misses him. However there is a 'cloud' of flame and plasma from the blasters inches from obi wan. The globe of flame is at least twice the size of Obi Wan, yet he is absolutely unharmed. My question is this, how powerfull is this blast, and why did he recive not so much as a scratch? I know he has strong enough force powers to deflect matter, but a ball of flame and plasma? how is that possible?

That doesnt jive with the movie. In the movie his ship scans the galaxy and doesnt track Anakin down directly. Instead it scans and tracks down the Naboo starship they had taken. There is even a wireframe image that comes up on Obiwans display.

not the entire galaxy dude..
and anyway. obi wan thought that anakin was going to be on naboo so he basically tries to triangulate him on naboo, that hardly took any time yes.. then he finds that he's not there and probably engages a search in the vicinity and found a likely signal that matches anakins and zoom in and tada he finds anakin's signal or whatever.

What would he be scanning for though? That is what gets me. What could he be scanning for that quickly that would figure out Anakin.

maybe the nearest part of the galaxie? or maybe as far as his sensors made it?What would he be scanning for though? That is what gets me. What could he be scanning for that quickly that would figure out Anakin.
oh, and the best SW tech IMO is the Worldship Palpatine gave to Executor Sedriss..i mean, a flying world, made with technique, and not with the bio-tactics of the YV

The Ultimate Star Wars Tech is everything the Hyperspace Aliens did (move planets through Hyperspace, Centrepoint Station, position black holes into a cluster, small scale Hyperspace transportation).
Unfortunately, since the Hyperspace Aliens disappeared before Galactic history, the Galaxy really doesn't have access to their technology, at least in a practical sense.

The exact quote on tracking Anakin is 'That's Anakin's tracking signal.. But it's coming from Naboo'. The wireframes are the Jedi Starfighter.

You mean Dark Side lackey Lord Hethrir, the self-styled leader of the Empire Reborn movement and the former Imperial Procurator of Justice? It wasn't Executor Sedriss, and the thing wasn't a whole planet. It was the size of a small planetoid and equipped with artificial gravity; it couldn't support an atmosphere or anything on its own.Lex wrote:maybe the nearest part of the galaxie? or maybe as far as his sensors made it?What would he be scanning for though? Here's what he's saying. Obi-Wan tries to have his droid call up Anakin since he knows Anakin's personal holonet ID number or whatever on Naboo. He figures out he isn't there. He scans nearby systems for Anakin's transponder. Locating it, he sends Anakin a message. Obi-Wan is the only one who knows Anakin's particular ID he's using on his mission, therefore, only Obi-Wan, or someone with his droid, can find Anakin by searching the holonet for his ID. That's what I gather. I might be wrong.

Thrawn's right; this whole thread doesn't belong here.

According to the novel, the laser charge was depleted, hence why he only go off one low powered shot from the blasters, the smallest weapon on the ship.Col.
