Actually, the air pressure argument assumes that the ship is suspended by air pressure. This is a perfectly reasonable conjecture under most circumstances, but when you have a repulsorlift drive that can apparently function through solid obstacles, there is no need for the ship to apply any downward force to the air beneath it.

In theory, if a ship's repulsorlift allowed it to interact with the planet's gravitational field in such a manner as to keep it from accelerating downward, then it would not apply any downward force on the column of air beneath it. So the biggest problem would be the bow wave of air that it pushes in front of it when it moves.

yes, but since most star ships in the SW universe are built in space for only orbital and interstellar travel, is an SSD equiped with the repulsor package neccesary to take it that far down into the gravity well?

Hence my comment that 'Force Field Control', in the comic, may indicate some kind of ground-based repulsor device.

I also wouldn't be surprised if an ISD, at least-- perhaps even an Sovereign or Allegiance-- could go into high atmosphere; getting out would be a bitch, but they would be high enough that all they'd have to do would be set themselves straight and blast off directly ahead. I doubt an Executor or Eclipse-class could achieve that without some serious assistance, though...
It's a strange world. Let's keep it that way.
