Did the GE euthanize infant Force users?

Post by Stravo »

We know the Republic carried out widespread testing of infants for Force potential. Did Palpatine carry out similar testing of Imperial children in order to kill any potential Jedi and/or Force users? The thought of a system where every parent has to hold his breath and hope his child is not Force sensitive would make life in the GE pretty chilling and I don't see any evidence of widespread dissent against Palpatine until Alderaan blows up and even then its not truly widespread until Endor.

Probably not.

Without the Jedi order to teach them the average potential is not going to be anything more than someone thought of as very lucky, very good, or both.
That is the sound of inevitability.

Perhaps keeping in mind that two Jedi masters are still on the loose you may want to deny them raw material to work with - but I do see your point. Anakin without the training would have just been the best pod racer in the Outer Rim or something to that effect.

Run the numbers. 10,000 Jedi come from a galaxy spanning empire means you get one force user from maybe 1 in 500 planets.

You are two Jedi masters on the run. Go find one of those children in the galaxy. BTW even a Jedi Master Qui Gon standing next to Anakin did not know what he had found for sure without a blood test.

Which is only 2000 Force-sensitives for every million planets, and not all Force-sensitives can undergo Jedi training.

With no Jedi Order those extremely rare children born with Force-sensitivity wouldn't be identified or trained, so I don't see how almost literally a handful of people across the Galaxy could become a threat. They'd just live out their lives with maybe some extra intuition and perhaps "mystic guidance," much like Anakin did while growing up on Tatooine before TPM.

It was show in the EU that a single Jedi (Luke) can restart the entire thing. The denial resource’s strategies is probable a sound one especially in light of the youngling massacre.

However there is evidence of the emperor using force sensitise (e.g. Mara Jade and the cyberneticly enhanced sith from NJO found on corascant). So I think ever though I might have been a good idea it did not happen.

There is also evidence (agene in the EU) that some natural force sensitive were able to train them selves in the Jedi way from holocrones (there was a reference to a woman in the unknown regions in NJO that did this.).

Actually, Anderson, your numbers are out of whack. By the time of the Clone Wars, the Jedi had become major sticklers about approving and turning down Force-sensitives as Jedi, with many being turned down. It's partially why the Jedi downfall was as it was: there weren't enough of them anymore.

I am sure my numbers are off. I was merely trying to make the point that two Jedi Masters while running to avoid the law have have a lower chance of running into a potential pupil than I have of winning back to back lottos.

This is true, 4,000 prior to the Clone War period, the Jedi were far more numerous. The PT Jedi further fucked their numbers by turning out padawans that did not meet the standards. The agriculture corps? What the fuck, you've invested 10-13 years training them and you send them off to a farm planet.

Yep, 'Rebel Stand' by Aaron Allston. Vader went on covert missions to round up force sensitive kiddies. Presumbly to eliminate them.

IIRC there was something about COrran Horn saying that his adopted parents were scared of the imperials coming for him, so it does look like they rounded them up.

Executing them? I'm not sure, i'd guess Vader and Palpy would try and "educate" them first.

While I agree with people 'playing the nubers' to show how hard it would be for two Jedi Masters to find candidates to train - so why would the Empire bother with rounding up and killing baby potentials, you guys are forgetting one important thing; somehow the Sith Master's managed it for 1000 years. Sidious would have to be on crack if he didn't instigate a search and destroy mission for Force potential knowing that both Yoda and Obi-Wan are still out there (and lets not forget about any other un-accounted Jedi) given his orders own history.

Perhaps the GE wouldn't keep an eye out for sensitives in every system all times of the day, but if the Jedi kept records of where they got their younglings, secret or otherwise, that Palpatine knows about you can be sure these families would at least be under surveillance. Most probably all members of these families would be slaughtered.

Why? Force-sensitivity isn't inherently genetic.

A child of a force sensitive may or may not be force sensitive and a child of a non-force sensitive may be force sensitive. But a clone of a person who is force sensitive will be force sensitive. However if a force sensitive has a force sensitive child they will be a similar strength in the force to the parent (usually) so there you go it is both genetic and not genetic.

Corran Horn wasn't adopted. IIRC it was his dad that was adopted and even then his mother was still with him. Rostek Horn, a senior member of the Corellian Security Force then used his position to cover up the identity of many Jedi families.

I, Jedi does mention Palpatine using Jedi Hunters. My educated guess is that they where Dark Jedi who where themselves purged when they where no longer useful.

Of course, it would seem that having even one force-sensitive parent dramatically increases the chances of sensitivity in the child (all there of the Solo children were force sensitive, even with only one Jedi parent.)

An explanation I like is that there is no gene for force sensitive but rather certain genetic qualities mean that the force “chooses” (for a lack of a better word) you this fits in with the living force idea.

Make just about as much sense as yodas comment at the end of ROTS about the living force bring them back together.
