Would Order 66 have auto-triggered if Palpatine was killed?

Bail himself says that the Two Thousand can't possible overcome Kenobi's supermajority.

Where would the Jedi evacuate to? How would they even know about Order 66? I thought they couldn't sense Order 66 because the clones only inteded to do it the second they recieved the Order, up until then the clones had no homocidal intentions.

And the novelization account of his arrest is different than the movie one. The audio recording of his arrest only has the JEdi come in, Palpatine says hi, the Jedi say he is under arrest, Palpatine accuse them of treason, and Palpatine cry for help.

Kenobi's? You mean Palpatine, right?

He lets Windu kills Palpatine. Order 66 was obviously a standing order, ready to be triggered at any time, and I think it would have been automatically triggered in the event of Palpatine's death.

What would happen in this scenario?
pretty much the same thing I imagine. ROTS (esp reading the novel) more or less demonstrates that Palpy has accelerated the decay of the Republic to the point that without him there, it would disintegrate rather rapidly into more localized factional powers. (The only reason it turned into the Empire was because he was still around to hold it together.)

I suspect that Palpatine's subordinates, knowing of his death at the hands of the Jedi, WOULD try to execute Order 66 (I figure either some of Palpy's trusted advisors knew about it, or Palpy would have left pre-recorded "in the event of my death at the hands of the Jedi' orders..) in order to preserve their own power - they'd have to know the Jedi are coming after them next.

The Jedi would effectively be outlaws - they've basically killed the Chancellor, and with only their word that he was a "Sith Lord" (And to man this might not even matter - all they would care about is that they killed the Chancellor.) The Senate might even be panicked into thinking that the Jedi are trying to take over or are going to move in on them next. Either way, the Jedi are probably outcasts, but are not (immediately at least) hunted down as efficiently as in the movie. Most of those Jedi leading trroops will probably still be killed, and the Temple Jedi might still take massive casualties getting away, but I suspect more Jedi would survive.

And killing Palpy would not (In my opinion) automatically dispel the "shroud of the dark Side" developing due to the war and the decline of the Republic (the ROTS novel makes mention of the war feeding that darkness when Order 66 is executed, IIRC.) If anything, the disintegration fo the Republic would *probably* feed it even more.

And lets not forget that if Palpy died, then the Separatists would not have (yet) been executed. Indeed, the removal of Palpatine would be a tremendous victory for them, but the war would probably still continue (they'll have lost Dooku AND Grievous.)

So in the end the "Shroud of hte Darkside" still exists, the war is still going on, ,and the Republic is still crumbling... and the Jedi will still be branded traitors and executed.

oops. It is Palpatine's supermajority.

Basically the galaxy dissolves into chaos and local conflicts.
