SW OT Deleted Scenes and DVDs
So I was wondering, the DVD Special Features disk had a slideshow of images from the sets and production of the Original Trilogy, and there were a fair few deleted scenes among them...
The question is, would these deleted scenes improve the DVDs? Would they contribute to our knowledge of SW? Flesh out the stories a little more? Or would they be unnecessary excresences upon the smooth flow that is the Original Trilogy, impeding its magnificence and scope?
An additional question-- what canonicity, if any, do these deleted scenes have?
Another question-- could someone list these scenes? I only know of a few, most from ANH...

It's a strange world. Let's keep it that way.

I'd certainly like to see them, but I wouldn't mind if they werent reincorperated. I think that the films do find thematically right now, and adding too many scenes might slow them down a bit.
As for canonosity, I would say they are unless contradicted by the film as a whole, like most sources.

I thought they were regarded pretty much on the same level as the movies themselves (those that are included as finished deleted scenes that is)?Xero Cool Down wrote:what canonicity, if any, do these deleted scenes have?
If they are included in the movies and not just a deleted scenes category then they carry just as much authority as the original scenes.
IN most cases, you would be right, but there are a few scenes, like a handful of ones in AOTC, which are essentially combonations of dialogue scenes from the movies condensed and placed in different places and times, replaced lster on, but still filmed. They arent canon as far as I know (contradicted.)Mange the Swede wrote:I thought they were regarded pretty much on the same level as the movies themselves (those that are included as finished deleted scenes that is)?Xero Cool Down wrote:what canonicity, if any, do these deleted scenes have?

I think the deleted scenes have REALLY deteriorated over the years.
The prints of the Luke/Treadwell scene where he is looking at the battle above him have had all their color fade, and the audio tracks are gone.(It had been sitting on top of a boiler)
The Toshe Station/Anchorhead scenes are in a bit better condition, but still in pretty bad shape.
The biggest interest for me would be the sandstorm scene from ROTJ, because it is the only MF external set built for the movie, all the other shots of it are matte paintings, or models. Compared to ANH's 1 and a half MF's, and ESB's 3.
My only problem with re-inserting the sandstorm scene is my same gripe with the Jabba Scene in ANH. Some of the dialog is the same, making it redundant.

If by "included" you mean in the movie then you just repeated what I said. If you mean just in the DVD, then no, it has no canon status at all, since it was never intended to become part of the movie or storyline.Mange the Swede wrote:I thought they were regarded pretty much on the same level as the movies themselves (those that are included as finished deleted scenes that is)?Xero Cool Down wrote:what canonicity, if any, do these deleted scenes have?
