It isn't the same thing. Traya rendered herself invisible to the Force, Sidious smothered it Galaxy-wide.

For the most part, though, Sidious's shroud, unless a jedi was right next to him, still allowed them to have their usual senses within a limited range. Mace Windu mentioned that in Shatterpoint, how within close range his Jedi senses still worked, but beyond that all he got was a cloud of muddled darkness.

Also, if Yoda's order was later, it's possible that he felt the deaths of the rest of the Jedi and their collective sense of betrayal at the hands of the clones, and that put him on guard. Sidious probably had the Shroud up, but that many Jedi dying at once . . .

-The Wookies appear to use ornithopters on their homeworld. But they also leave their prepared fighting positions to engage the droids as they approach the beach, a big no-no in modern tactics.

-The droid tanks appear to be amphibous without any obvious mechanism for it, how do they float? Repulsorlifts?
Maybe Lucas got a look at Star Trek when designing that scene

No matter what the method, Yoda's Order 66 clearly came later than other Jedi's.
I don't think it's that clear. When Luke was training on Dagobah, he felt the pain of Han and Leia's tourture well before it happened, and wasn't very far along in his training. Yoda may have felt the deaths of his brother and sister Jedi through the Force moments before it happened or minutes. The way the movie is edited, it does lead one to believe that the others were killed before Yoda, but that could be due to the fact that it is a movie and it has those linear constraints. I haven't read the novelization yet... does it clear up the time frame any better?

I think in the novellization Order 66 went out at the same time for everyone...Yoda just realized what was going on before the clones could snuff him. Maybe it was because Yoda was being more introspective than the other Jedi, with all the time he spent probing into the dark side, that might have given him the edge in knowing that something was wrong.

As I recall, the novelization doesnt go into the specific sequence of the Purge at all.

Thats of course possible as well.
By the way, did anyone notice if the suit already has the markings between the three red lights? I know they're on the suit by the time of ESB, but I haven't examined ANH yet, and I didn't think to look while watching ROTS.

Ack! Now that I think of it the novel pretty much left out everything that happened on Kashykk. Don't know what I was thinking...

NZ soldiers would leave prepared positions to engage the enemy when on the defensive in both world wars and, in the case of Gallipoli, when badly outnumbered. We would win as well. Aussies would do this too IIRC.

It does, however, state that the order was given only once, and was carried out as the Clones received it.

I think the logic behind leaving prepared positions is to counter-attack using covering fire from the positions and catch and drive the enemy back hoping that they can take the enemy's positions and that the enemy troops being driven back to their positions will be in the way of any machine gun fire.
Plus, Rebel Troops do this on Hoth as well. It seems, at least in SW, that infantry make counter-attacks from entrenched positions to get close to enemy armor so that it's harder to be shot by said armor and to use explosives on weak points ala Saving Private Ryan.

Obi did kill Maul, who Palpy had been training for decades. I'd be a touche vindictive too.
