"Once more the Sith will rule the galaxy."

Post by Havok »

So this is something Palpy says after he reveals himself. Now one of the parts of the EU I do enjoy are the comics, which also seems to be the only source that covers the pre-republic. On to the point. When do the Sith rule the galaxy? I know that they invaded they republic, but did I miss some issues?

Another thing that threw me when I was watching AOTC yesterday was when Palps says "I will not let this Republic which has stood for 1000 years be split in two.". Hasn't the Republic been around for much longer than that? On that note... wouldn't that time frame coincide with the destruction of the Sith before Bane established the rule of two?

Are all three of these things linked? Maybe the Sith ruled 1000 years before TPM and thier destruction signaled the begining of the Republic. Is there anything in the EU covering this period?

There have been several Sith invasions of the Republic, the most recent of which occured one thousand years before the PT. Little is known about this conflict, other than that it saw the almost complete defeat of the Sith, brought the Republic so close to destruction that it was built up as virtually new organization (hence the thousand years) and turned the Jedi Order into the enforcers of peace rather than a more military entity as it had been before.

It is noted in the Starwars.com Databank for "Republic" and "The Sith", as well as the Essential Guide to Chronology, and a few comics whose names elude me.

Those occured 3,000-4,000 years before the events in question.

The event Ire mention was called the Ruusan Reformation. The Republic supposedly had to be rebuilt and as a result, they reset the galactic calender. The Jedi themselves, changed greatly. They got rid of their battle armor (because robes are teh sex, baby! :P), dropped military ranks (I guess the General rank they accept is an exception to the rule or the rule itself was dropped), which is why we never see Jedi refered to as Lord. They also decided to localize the training of padawans on Coruscant, where they and their masters could be supervised. Finally, amongst other things, they forbid the studying of Sith texts and whatnot. This probably why concepts such as a one unifying force were considered heretical.

The name comes from the planet that the final battle of this Sith War took place on. Every Jedi, Republic soldier, almost all Sith and every Ruusan were killed with a Sith Lord named Kaan unleashed what is quite possibly the most powerful force power ever (even more powerful and fearsome than force lightning), the Thought Bomb. The only survivors were Darth Bane and a young girl named Zannah, who would become his apprentice one day. Bane, of course was the Sith who brought about the "Rule of two", restricting the Sith Order to just a master and apprentice.

And thats your daily dose of nerdiness. :D

Since Yoda knows of the Sith rule of two, does this mean the Jedi encountered Sith after Ruusan, and apparently destroyed them again?

In the RotS novelisation, Mace indicated that he knew of Darth Bane, as well. Specifically:
Page 212 wrote:"Since the fall of Darth Bane more than a millenium ago, there have been hundred of thousands of Jedi... blah blah blah.
"The bird let out a slow chicken cackle. It sounded like a chicken, but in her heart she knew it wasn't. In that instant, she completely understood the concept of a chicken that was not a chicken. This looked like a chicken, like most of the Mud People's chickens. But this was no chicken.

In the ROTS novel it's stated that the Jedi Order itself is older than the Republic. The "thousand year Republic" is also mentioned again, IIRC.

Did a Jedi captain named "Q'irk," after seeing the horror of this "terrible weapon" yell "Kaaaaaaaaan!" ? I hope so.
