Star Wars Radio Dramas
Who here has heard the Star Wars Radio Dramas in which the OT movies were turned into radio fare? (If there are any others please post the names and where to get them) And if you have heard them are they worth the price? I certainly want to get them but I never spend a cent on non essential items until I have enough (typically 3 or 4) people who can vouch for the product in question. So what do you guys think?
I've heard them (it's been about 3 years since I listened to them all, my roomate owned them). You have to buy them on CD. Check Amazon.com or ebay. "Star Wars Radio Drama" "Empire Strikes Back Radio Drama" "Return of the Jedi Radio Drama" IIRC. Could be wrong about the exact name and I expect someone geekier than I to correct me if such is the case! Worth the price (unless super cheap)? Not really. If they were at the library, and you're curious, they'd be worth checking out once, but I have no desire to listen to them again.Dorenn Stark wrote:Who here has heard the Star Wars Radio Dramas in which the OT movies were turned into radio fare? That's hours and hours and hours! I'd rather read the novels and imagine it all in my head, but that's me. I just sat and listened to them, I didn't listen to them on a long boring car-trip or anything...
Some parts are kinda cool, other parts are really really cheesy (like Vader's lines to Luke during the "I am your father" scene, whoa, and Vader's voice is really overly dramatic, bear in mind that these are not the movie actors for the most part; and Han's "seduction" of Leia also in ESB). There's some weird stuff in there about "Heater" too (they took the Jabba scene with the fat Irish guy and just imagined that there was this henchman who worked for Jabba and stood in for him to foil assassins or something and just play out the ANH scene otherwise as written in the script). Or how about Vader "mentally torturing" Leia? "You are on fire! Auuughh" Yesh.
Quotable line (ANH):
"Speed runnings Skywalker! I'm going to see how much time I can shave off the back streh-tch!"
fun/fantasy movies existed before the overrated Star Wars came out. What made it seem 'less dark' was the sheer goofy aspect of it: two robots modeled on Laurel & Hardy, and a smartass outlaw with bigfoot co-pilot and their hotrod pizza-shaped ship, and they were sucked aboard a giant Disco Ball. -adw1
Someone asked me yesterday if Dracula met Saruman and there was a fight, who would win. I just looked at this man. What an idiotic thing to say. I mean really, it was half-witted. - Christopher Lee

To be precise, the line was "Speed runs, Skywalker, speed runs. I want to see how much time I can shave off the back stretch."
And I highly recommend the radio dramas, as they kick ass.

It's Rogue, not Rouge!

I much prefer my friend's impression of the line (which he repeated often, he was THE SW fan back in high school, less so now):Rogue 9 wrote:To be precise, the line was "Speed runs, Skywalker, speed runs. I want to see how much time I can shave off the back stretch."

He'd say it really fast until he got to the last word... but the way he said stretch was like STREH-TCHAAAAAH!
It was hilarious. You had to be there...
