Ridiculous claim or twisted truth?
I'm reading through DarkStar's overview page in an effort to take it apart. He claims that proton torpedoes in SW are reported by one EU source as firing shrapnel. Does anyone know what the fuck he's talking about? I've read every SW book, and I have no clue what he's talking about. The best I can come up with is that he's mistaking shrapnel-based flechette launchers with true proton torpedoes, but I can never tell whether he's bluffing/bullshitting or bending the truth only a little.

Twisting the truth, in one of the X-wing novels (our maybe more than one) a TIE fighter was killed by shrapnel after it's wingmate got nail with a proton torpedo. Of course he overlooks the certainty that it TIE shrapnel and not from the torpedo.Master of Ossus wrote:I'm reading through DarkStar's overview page in an effort to take it apart. LMAO! If that's really what he's talking about, he's dumber than I thought. I'll get right on it.Stormbringer wrote:Twisting the truth, in one of the X-wing novels (our maybe more than one) a TIE fighter was killed by shrapnel after it's wingmate got nail with a proton torpedo. Thanks, Stormbringer.

I'm still amazed he can actually make semi-coherent sentences let alone type and make a webpage.Master of Ossus wrote:LMAO! If that's really what he's talking about, he's dumber than I thought. I'll get right on it.
Thanks, Stormbringer.

The worst one is "Ripping apart DarkStar's cowardly attempt to avoid criticism. It's now in the Hall of Shame (rightfully). If you want an example of how NOT to debate, go there and read the thing. It is incredibly long, but it's also hilarious. Every time I read it I think of some other way I could have attacked DarkStar during the debates. Incidentally, DarkStar also has a "website" here:Aya wrote:Who's this DarkStar guy? I've seen him mentioned a few times.

It is widely regarded as the stupidest website on the face of the net.

I have to ask again...is he really for real and not a group of squirrels trying to pull our leg?

We've been looking for signs of that for years. The fact is, if he IS a group of squirrels, then they are the most incredibly disciplined squirrels in history. Frankly, if they're just a group like this, then they deserve to have their laughs. If, however, he is an actual person (as is demonstrated by all evidence), then he is actually the stupidest person that I have ever come across.Ghost Rider wrote:I have to ask again...is he really for real and not a group of squirrels trying to pull our leg?

I dared to venture onto darkstar's site
Anyone seen his ridiculously bloated scaling for the Voy: "Rise" asteroid?. If those central torpedo glows were 10m across the main deflector section of the hull would be ~200m wide when the widest point on the saucer section is only 130m!!. No wonder he gets such a large estimate for torpedo firepower.
Properly scaling the torpedo's to the hull gives a width of ~2.2m and the corresponding asteroid size of 44mx29m, assuming the missing volume(~45%) has been vaporised and using iron as a model gives ~190kt; a figure more in line with the events of TNG:"Genesis" and TNG"boobytrap" were asteroids <15m across were destroyed.
Overall not a stellar display by photon torpedoes, certainly not of the magnitude darkstar claims.
His attempt at discrediting ICS is even funnier:
Of course, this is the same ICS that claims 200 gigaton weapons for the prequel-era combat vessels such as the proto-ISD Acclamator, without realizing the inherent absurdity. See, some claim that Star Wars fighters can't actually do anything of value to a Star Wars capital ship unless the shields are down, and that the shields can't be brought down by fighters.
However, such claims are patently absurd. There is no point to fighters, unless they can be employed against the ships before ship-to-ship combat ensues . . . especially if there's such a wide gulf between fighter firepower and ship firepower.
Oh and notice how he ignores the larger of the two asteroids slave 1 destroyed with its cannons; the one larger than the ship which was compeletly fragmented.
