In the Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight PC game manual several villains and adversaries of Kyle "Mr. Giant Pockets" Katarn were described, Jerec among them. It was said that he was blinded since birth, but used the Force to see his surroundings. Later WotC's Dark Side Sourcebook (since I started playing SW RPGs after WEG's line was ended, I have no knowledge in what manner Jerec appeared in those) validated this line of thought by stating Jerec's species to be human (although that book, despite containing the Imperial Inquisitor prestige class, failed to add the said prestige class into Jerec's RPG statistics).

However, in later sources Jerec has been described as a Miraluka, a race of humanoids who a) all lack eyes, b) are all Force-Sensitive, and c) all use the Force to see their surroundings. Which is rather ridiculous in the case of Jerec, since if I am not wrong, you can actually SEE his eyes beyond that thin piece of cloth that he's placed before his eyes, and since his flavour text described him as being "blinded since birth" - theoretically, the Miraluka are blinded since birth, since they actually don't even have eyes in the first place, but the statement seems to imply that Jerec is human.

Alternatively, the moaning was palpatine having sex with a demon in hell.

Or Perhaps it was Palpatine sodomizing Count Dooku. You never know what those Sith lords are going to get up to when they're dead...

It is also stupid since the Miraluka are purported to be extinct, IIRC.

Someone obviously asked why he can't have droid eyes.

The rebuke being that he's been using the force for so many years to see it would totally fuck up his abilities.

No, it isn't. The Miraluka's home planet was Alpheridies and they had several colonies; Visas Marr came from one of them, Katarr, and it was left for dead after Nihilus' attack. But they definitely survived as a species... if you can call them that.
Star Trek vs. Star Wars, Extralife style.

Yep. According to Wizards of the Coast (apparently "revising" the Dark Forces Novels and games which say nothing to that effect) he was part of a race of aliens who look exactly like humans but are born without eyeballs (but they have empty eye sockets). And I'm not sure if all of them or just a lot of them do this, but they rely on the Force to let them see as well as sighted person.

Sounds like something the Trek writers would come up with...

Suffice to say, it took some quality weed to come up with this idea!

In the Jedi Knight cutscenes you can clearly see at least one shot where you see Jerec's eyes under his mask. I assumed he just wore it for style since he was blind (more stylish than the usual dark sunglasses).

I'm guessing the WOTC guys would just claim this was a special effects gaffe (like seeing Maw's "human" teeth in one shot, rather than the spikey ones you normally see).

The thing about missing eyes is that he could have gotten cosmetic eyeballs (like the archotypical "glass eye") just for the sake of looks. He could have been diagnosed as blind at a young age and had plenty of time to get used to "droid eyes" (man, how cool would that be? like something out of dune messiah! not that silly "Cyclops" visor they have Han wear in ROTJ: Infinities). If somebody like Vader could get used to a whole suit (not that he had much choice) I'm sure Jerec could get used to robot eyes, even if he got them later in life.

Maybe Jerec wasn't born blind (but if we go the "he's an alien" route, we have to assume he's been blind since birth).

fun/fantasy movies existed before the overrated Star Wars came out. What made it seem 'less dark' was the sheer goofy aspect of it: two robots modeled on Laurel & Hardy, and a smartass outlaw with bigfoot co-pilot and their hotrod pizza-shaped ship, and they were sucked aboard a giant Disco Ball. -adw1
Someone asked me yesterday if Dracula met Saruman and there was a fight, who would win. I just looked at this man. What an idiotic thing to say. I mean really, it was half-witted. - Christopher Lee

They all do. For the record the Miraluka (spelled something like that) first appeared in the Tales of the Jedi: Dark Lords of the Sith graphic novel.

The description of the Miraluka has been revised as well. Originally they were described as being born blind with nonfunctional, solid milky-white eyes. But that's since been overridden by WOTC saying they lack eyes completely.

Personally I think it makes more sense from an evolutionary standpoint, given their history, that they possess functionless eyes, but WotC had to go and make it silly...

Okay thanks. For me Jerec will always just be a blind human who learned the Force. There's no reason to make up all this other crap to explain anything of his character, to me.

To be fair, Miraluka are technically humans, so describing Jerec as human wouldn't be inaccurate.

Allright, I misremembered, and thought Alpheridies was Katarr.
