Not defending anyone from the charge of stupidity, but rather exploring the reasons of the Imperials that could lead to this kind of blatent error.NecronLord wrote:So what you're doing, is defending them from the charge of stupidity by calling them stupid? They think they are better, they think the Rebels are idiots that cant fight, are made up of "scum" with no actual intellect or ability.
They overestimate themselves while underestimating the Rebellion. This is one of the key factors that is their folley in almost all of their engagments.
As for the "fun" they thought they were winning and in relevance to the massive fleet that was in orbit, the legion of troops had the false assurance that even if the shield did go down, the Rebellion fleet was going to be fighting the Imperial Navy.
So in light of this knowledge, from their perspective they have all the time in the world to take the Rebels on the ground apart in a confrontation which allows for one of the biggest face offs between the Empire and Rebellion. A chance to "beat the Imperial chest" in a display of power at how "great" the Emperor's elite really is.
Up to this point the Rebels prefer hit and run attacks which are no doubt annoying to the Empire since it presses them on their weak points. In this situation they are holding all the cards in a fight which is reputed to be the "end of the Rebellion" and a sure win. Thus the Imperials will want to take as much chance to humiliate and defeat the Rebels as possible.
From the standpoint of the TF the Gungans were in a no win situation, their shield generators were pretty much fixed with the TF ahead. From the TF perspective they have plenty of time to do the theatrics with a show of power.NecronLord wrote:Of course they were. By the director. Having the droids unactivated is also economically cheap, the Tanks would have been more than enough to kill the Gungans without the shields so obviously the TF decided to keep the battle efficent. With the introduction of the shields they activate the droids.
Activating the droids prior to battle is a waste of energy if the tanks are going to win the battle from their perspective. Since the TF is a business, then the idea is to not waste cash even if its just on the power for the droids.
Deploying them on the battlefield like it was done isnt stupidity, it was clear the Gungans were content to sit behind their shields and also clear that if the Gungans came out they would be killed. They were playing for time, and the TF thought they had the winning hand, which they did until a certain-little-boy managed to go where noone should have been able to go before
