Steven's Episode 3 Hypothesis

I have been thinking of how Chancellor Palpatine went to being an Emperor, retained his Emergency Powers Act, wiped out the Jedi, recruited Anakin, and how he lost Tyranus.

What I have come up with so far is that Tyranus and the confederates continue the war with the republic. The Jedi are lost due to attrition, droids can be built in factories but each Jedi that is lost is hard to replace. Finally Tyranus himself begins to start hunting down the Jedi, his skills with a lightsaber are more than a match for most of them. Tyranus will have more than enough covert assistance from Sideous to complete his mission.

Soon though the vast majority of Jedi are dead, since Anakin has been expelled from the order he was not really involved in the fighting like the Jedi. Chancellor Palpatine has seen to it that Anakin is now on his staff and has been secretly training him in the ways of the Jedi/Sith and the young boy is growing very strong.

Now Chancellor Palpatine has a problem, the Confederates have done their job. The Jedi are dead, the Republic is in a full state of war, and for him to have a complete galaxy in his control the Confeds and their leader must be eliminated. So enters the 'Last hope' for the galaxy, Anakin off to face down the Evil Count Dooku and put a stop to the rebellion once and for all.

So in one fell swoop Anakin (now known as Darth Vader) kills the one man who could have spilled the beans on Palpatine's plans, becomes a Galactic Champion by saving the Republic, and validates the leadership of Chancellor Palpatine who will use this momentum for the next phase.

Since the Jedi were once the protectors of the Republic, there is a gap to be filled. The Chancellor calls for the creation of a standing army to protect the republic in place of the Jedi who have sadly fallen in the terrible conflict. Thus is born a permanent republic army, under the direct control of the Chancellor. To further solidify his position he calls for and gets even more powers, and renames his position to that of Emperor.

The Galactic Champion, Darth Vader is now appointed to be his most senior staff member (by popular support of course). The name Darth Sideous is cast off as being useless now, even if someone figured out what happened it would be too late at this point to stop Palpatine.

And that is my hypothesis on what might occur in Episode 3.

More to the point; where does Obi-Wan's comment to Luke about Vader 'hunting down the Jedi' fit in?

Apart from that, not bad at all. Actually it makes great sense.
