Naboo

Post by Lord Pounder »

What ever happened to Naboo?

It is a vital planet in the NT but in the OT and in EU books untill NJO it is never mentioned and as far as i've seen in NJO it's just a reference point on the galatic map.

Well it is not a strategic location after all.Sure it is the homeworld of Palpatine and Padme etc,but once these characters move out it remains nothing more than a tourist trap.

According to Star Wars Galaxies:

The Emperor has erected a stunning retreat on Naboo where he holds summits with high-ranking Imperial personnel. Imperial sympathizers can find a wide range of adventures here to pull them headlong into the throes of the Galactic Civil War. Perhaps after many trials and successful missions on behalf of the Empire, the most skilled agents may even gain an audience with the Emperor himself.

I would agree with that. I don't see the reason why Palpy would destroy Naboo. There is no point.

He's opened a series of restauraunts for Imperial Diplomats. The waitresses are all wearing Queen Amidala costumes and makeup and the actual wait staff is Gungan slave labor. Anyone who is dissatisfied with the meal may order some stromtroopers to drag a Gungan out behind the building and have it shot, this is also part of the pre-meal entertainment.

I don't see why Darth Sidious would hold any sentimental attachment to Naboo. Can you imagine that robed, frail paragon of evil walking through the meadows? I sure as hell can't.

Palpatine as EMperor kept huge storehouses and private museums full of artifacts and trophies from all over the galaxy. We also know from Shadows of the EMpire that he kept the best horticulturist in the galaxy on his payroll doing the gardening for his skyhook. Granted the gardener was "accidentally killed" after accepting a better paying job from Xizor.

Walk through the meadows? Probably not, a planet where the most important women look like overindulgent geishas? ooooh

Good thing Galaxies is lowest-level canon, because having Naboo exist during the OT if it is in fact BDZed in EpIII would mess up continuity if it were present anywhere else.

IIRC it was BDZed. A planet that use to have Palpatine as a senator could be dangerous. Dead men tell no tales.

If you remember correctly from what?
What source says Naboo is slagged? None.

It probably won't be in ep3. If there were any people that "told tales" about Palpatine, they would be most dangerous BEFORE he became Chancellor.

Maybe we'll find out why the Death Star plans were shown in Ep II?

There was nothing important about it beyond it being the capital of a very minor sector. Sidious probably chose it because he was familiar with its politics and such, and it was involved with trade through the Trade Federation.

Star Wars already has porblumes with the same few planets showing up in every thing. If we never hear of Naboo again I'm just fine with it, there are 51 million others to hear about.

I doubt GL would be stupid enough to repeat something people complain about from ROTJ: "not another Death Star!"

If he has to put anything Death Star related in the movie it should be more motivation for the Empire building the Death Star.

Maybe the Emperor wasn't satisfied with the amount of time it took the fleet to turn Naboo into a broken cinder? He's a busy man with things to do. One planet shouldn't be taking up all of his time or energy. The fleet should be able to pop in and >bang< planet problem solved. There'd even be a handy new asteroid belt ready to be mined for materials.

Actually, I keep expecting something to happen to Naboo in the next movie because of the Gungans. I don't think Palpatine likes them too much (maybe more thanks to Jar Jar in AotC) and it seems odd that Naboo would be so prominant in the prequels and not be mentioned at all in the OT.

Naboo being gone would also be another reason for Leia's mother to be "sad", just in case having your hubby become a mass murder and giving up your son wasn't enough.

I'm kind of wondering how Amidala ended up with Bail Organa anyway. If she wasn't in galactic politics I would think she'd be back on Naboo with her family.

Actually, since Naboo isn't built like a normal planet maybe the fleet's onslaught could be enough to shatter it or cause a chain reaction in that energy that the people of Naboo mine to power their stuff?
